It's hard to leave a spoiler-free review, so I'll just go ahead and recommend it. If you played the first game, this has enough content to justify the price tag. If you haven't played the original then this is a fantastic experience.

My only warning is that this is not an action game; it's an experience closer to a (very smart) interactive story.

I've been hit by frequent bugs and several key aspects are poorly explained, or not at all. It feels like early-access, but without the updates to fix the problems.

If you can make it past the Rockstar launcher and their garbage customer support, this game might be fun. Who knows.

I've heard this game was a walking simulator, but that would be an improvement. There is game-play, it just isn't any good.
The graphics, music, story, and characters are all excellent. The world is a beautiful and interesting setting, with a unique plot which keeps you coming back for more.
What becomes a chore is the constant quick-button events to stop you stumbling. Punishment for failing these is frustration rather than any real impact. The UI is cluttered and full of features which do nothing more than bloat the game with things to do, even if they are boring (such as your shoes having a durability).
Overall, a rich story and beautiful setting are held back by irritating game-play.

Imagine if Tim Burton got it together, and put his creative talent into a video game. That would be almost as good as this.

You'll notice that the game is made by a small studio - with poor facial animations and invisible walls throughout - but that small studio have an incredible talent for writing.
The story keeps throwing up surprises and adding new layers at a level I've only seen in a tiny handful of games over the years. If you like intrigue and a stunningly creative world, this game is for you. While facial animations are stiff, the voice acting is superb throughout, and the setting is beautifully rendered.
That said, if you're after action, the very little combat this game offers is very basic and not particularly well implemented. It's largely optional and very rare, but action fans are better looking elsewhere.

It is simple and easy. Not a game if you're after a challenging triple A game, but when you're too tired to play much else it really hits the spot.

Give us a way to disable the horrific dialogue & voice acting, clean up some of the menus, then maybe it's worth buying.

It seems simple, but it's far from it. Games are quick, but strategy goes deep, especially given the huge differences between classes. You'll storm through the first few levels, but go back again and again to try to make it past some of the later levels.

The graphics are cute, but the banging soundtrack is what makes it. The enemies and characters are imaginative, even if the dialogue is very minimal.

100% worth it for the very low price point.

A very similar experience to X-Com 2. If you like that game, I would highly recommend Gears Tactics. Is it as good as X-Com? No. But it isn't far, and Gears is better than 90% of the other turn based strategy games out there.

Sure, the plot is dumb, and some of the fights can feel a little repetitive, but the progression and great graphics make for an engaging experience.
