I played in beta with some terrible optimization and wrote this game off - this game is in such a good state now. The guns feel good and the movement is great!

I'm going to literally copy and paste what some dude already said because this is pretty much exactly how I feel about the game, except I'll give it a positive review. I got 30 hours of fun for $5, you can't tell me that doesn't deserve a thumbs up. With that said... there are some issues, as shown in the following review, written by some other person:

"Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. This is a maybe for sure. There's a ton of fun to be had here - the abilities are fairly varied and flashy and a lot of the builds can feel different, the rune system + weapon system (plus the new character-based skill trees) are a good way to change it up in a lot of ways.

The problems you run in to are twofold: To get the highest tier materials, you HAVE to turn all the curses on to max. This turns the game into one where realistically only a few ways to build work and even then you have standouts where doing anything else is hurting you. The reason it gets so restrictive is the absolutely unending spam of red circles (projectiles, slam attacks, AoE attacks, whatever) coming at you - they happen when you kill enemies, they happen AGGRESSIVELY every minute or so when a bombardment tower spawns (that you then have to dash straight towards and kill to get any breathing room), and the bosses screen-covering attacks which mean you want to be hitting as many things as possible at all times, ideally when they're not even on screen.

You pretty much have to turn the visual transparency to max which takes out a lot of the "feel" of going fire over poison, for example, to be able to see. Also all you do is move and dodge red circles, there's really no more to it than that on max curse, no playing around with things, etc. That would be fine if it were an optional difficulty but it isn't if you want to craft weapons (which you do, they unlock more content!). Turning off the curses for the towers and the after-enemy-death meteors especially helps de-escalate the red circles a ton, but those are mandatory too.

The problem on top of this is the clearly poorly balanced material farming rates. You have to have curse maxed out to even see the high tier ones, but also the lowest 1-2 tier materials are what you need the most of by a landslide. Spending 10-15 minutes per run farming to get 1/6 of the material needed to craft 1 weapon for 1 character is nonsense, and that's WITH the high level rune to increase material rate by 50%. So you're rerunning the same 1 map 6-7 times in a row with the same runes, same curse, same build, because anything else might slow you down, and you get to unlock 1 of dozens of weapons (more of which are coming). I know I've highlighted this (and some others have posted about it as well) to the devs for months and it's one of the things they just have not acknowledged - apparently they must think it's fun this way, but I don't.

Keep in mind, this is when I had 100% unlocks going into a new patch, with abundant materials leftover from playing each of the new weapons, and I still fell short of literally every new weapon released. I have almost 60 hours in from the initial release and It'd take me probably another 10 of dedicated grinding, no actual variety, to unlock the rest of the weapons in the game as of this post.

The REQUIRED highest tier of difficulties need to be reworked to be more interesting and interactive, and the material rates (or costs) need to be overhauled badly. Those two changes would make me put this in the "recommend" but right now it actually feels like a bullet heaven that doesn't respect your time, it almost feels GaaS-like in the grind requirements, and frankly? F that. This genre is great because in 10-30 minutes you can have a whole fun experiment and then do it again, Soulstone Survivors asks "what if you didn't actually get to do that?" and the answer is, it gets boring fast."
