Its been 23 years since 1993 when Doom the original released and blew people's minds. Doom 2 was also hugely successful so there were high hopes for Doom3 which was less than critically acclaimed. Needless to say there was a lot riding on the return to hell in this newest iteration, simply known as Doom.

Doom 2016 feels like a return to its roots. It focuses on a run and gun combat style similar to the first 2 Doom's with high intensity battles followed by periods of exploration. The gun selection includes a wide variety of weapons to choose from and an option to mod the guns is a nice addition. Although I do wish some of the guns had more impact in the audio dept.

The graphics are superb especially onsidering the game runs like glass. I was shocked at the smoothness of play. The game focuses on combat but there is a storyline if you are interested in finding it. All in all this is a superb return for the Doom franchise and maybe the best shooter of 2016. Still the best in class.

Can't wait for Doom Eternal.
