First things first. This review encompasses both of my Bungie and Steam accounts. The other being Perus_TC Too! I currently have over 5000 hours in both on Steam and double that on Battlenet as I played a LOT more then than now!

This game at time of release was the BEST game of the genre I had ever played.. period! Exactly why I bought it twice. I had so much fun and being a senior gamer (68) I value fun at a premium!
The best story, game play, community and support.

Then came Steam release and things went down hill rather quickly. Shadowkeep was okay and the Witch Queen bailed it out for a season as I found renewed interest.

Since then it's been just horrible. The game play is still fantastic so I still do some bounties but EVERYTHING is now gravitating to elite skilled players with money.. and a lot of it! The story is contrived at best and all the "SINGLE PLAYER" content is not so much. If you are a new player you probably won't be affected to badly but, when they say single player they mean you CAN play it but, you are going to spend money or you are going to have to have a rather high skill set. They have made it so you CANNOT reach full power level without playing with others OR having said high skill level.

When the game launched I played it all day everyday. Over and over.

The sound and graphics are within the range of what one expects nowadays and all the weapons and vehicles are a bit engaging for ME! I personally believe Bungie should pull the single player listing off of the store page and quit calling it that. Can you play it by yourself?.... yes! Will you want to for a long time? Not me!

I still play it on both accounts for a predictable amount of time each week until I can't or it gets worse. New players be informed before you buy it. If you want to RAID, Strikes, and co-op constantly you will probably like it. Depending on how fast you get bored! In it's current state I cannot recommend it!

Addendum: Another point or 2 of contention that I failed to note. Very early in the game they decided to kill the best (IMHO) character (Cayde 6) in the game and to totally remove KEY locations and story lines to keep the game from getting to "Large". I played through the story just to be able to experience it again and again and had a blast every time. Especially the main chapter at the end of the original version that actually made you feel like you were a part of it.

Brought me to tears every time. Now THAT's story telling. Now not so much. It is an absolute travesty that they just HAD to have ALL the "Candy"! Now we see the result that greed can and does play into it in 2024. How many houses you need? 12? Cars? 20? Lambo to go to convenience store at 3 bucks a gallon? Crying shame that what was "Art" is now a chalk drawing on the sidewalk.

I am writing this assuming that players will get my caveats.I recommend this game for every Outlast fan but me.I was disappointed in the story and the progression through the levels.Run,Sneak,Hide,Rinse and repeat. There are mild puzzles in the game and the graphics and sound are OUTstanding! Most of the characters in the game are a little too exaggerated for me.Think....The Evil Within only more twisted(if that's possible).Like I said...it's a good game....it's just not for me....I deleted it before finishing it. 5\10

This was a very pleasant and relaxing game. The story is a little abstract in places and the puzzles are well integrated. The graphics and sound are well done and the delivery is also well thought out.The color palette is very attractive to me and is also very calming. All in all you could do a lot worse for a lot more money 8\10

I am happy to report that my initial expectations for this title were WAY outta whack as this game is awe inspiring.

Pros:Fantastic Story Elements
Great graphics that are able to be set to run on many machines
Level Design reminiscent of the Bioshock series
Voice Acting that is spot on
Locational sounds that are very realistic
Detailed and well thought out combat elements
Character models are spotless
Many different endings are possible with 2 different characters

Everything Else

Cons:Needs 10 sequels

It isn't often that I resoundingly bark the laud of a sequel to an already outstanding game but, this is an exception.I am on my fourth playthrough and I am not even close to being tired of it.That has only happened to me with the previously stated Bioshock series(1+2) and the Mass Effect franchise along with a little Saints Row the Third thrown in for seasoning.

I could not possibly put into words any better with my limited vocabulary how artfully and masterfully done this title is.Anyone and I mean ANYONE who enjoys Stealth\Combat\Story and Ambience in a game will enjoy this. The Devs obviously listened to feedback from the last game and added elements from other long standing series in a way that does not detract from the current experience.Outstanding in every way in my book.12\10

After reading some of the comparison's of this game to Amnesia:Dark Descent I have to say that comparing the former to the latter is lunacy.I think that this game resembles a LOT of other stories, level designs, and music.AND?

The point of ANY game is whether you had fun with it or not.If you didn't then just say it wasn't fun for you and quit attacking dev's that actually CARE about their customers and their work.

IMHO this offering has a unique and well delivered story and the uncertain nature of the horror presentation is awesome.More importantly I had a BLAST playing it.

The sound design is spot on and creepy. The controls(mouse and keyboard)are well done. The graphics are beautiful and traversing the levels is very smooth.AND you can jump in this one....YAAAAHHHOO!

Considering the size of the Dev team this game is BENT!(That's a GOOD thing)Given that I have purchased games with much larger Dev teams and MUCH bigger budgets that just CRAWLED I think this one is above average.Very few of this genre have me wanting to play it more than once...this one does.Like AMNESIA:DARK DESCENT! Enjoy! 9\10 for me.

Okay,I get the idea behind some of the bad reviews but,I really enjoyed this one.The walking gets tedious if you take a wrong turn or do so REPEATEDLY.Outside of that the tension is palpable, the graphics are good and the music is hauntingly excellent. The story is by interpretation AND based on documented info as well and is VERY well done.Unless you have OUTSTANDING skills you will die.......a LOT.....but,it's worth every penny. The stamina could be a bit more robust but then it wouldn't be as tense.Buy it if ya like it.9\10 for me.

I cannot recommend a game that I cannot play.I was not aware that you either need to use a controller or the arrows keys to steer.I could not find any way to change the mapping either.VERY Disappointed!

Early Access Review
I have to say I was a bit uneasy buying this one but,I am glad to report that this game was a lot of fun.The visuals are kind of Andy Warhol meets "The Keep".Very nice sound design and slightly cramped level design. This game does not hold your hand either and the story notes are very well written.Creepy is as creepy does and it does well.Well thoughtout save placements and the lighting is spot on.Very pleased and surpised with this one.Highly Recommend 8\10

If I was going to try to put this in simple terms I would compare this to INFRA as far as the excellence that went into almost every phase of this production. The story and delivery of same is moving and makes you ask questions that you just might not want the answers to.The graphics are very good considering it's a port and the music is OUTSTANDING!

There are subtle nuances to this "game"that will befuddle you and at the same time encourage, enlighten, and challenge you to think and feel.I found myself weeping more than most people would admit(I frankly don't givea....)and heartily recommend this work of art to anyone who is introspective enough to enjoy this type of genre.

Hats off to ALL the people in this Dev team and to the farsighted individuals that recognized it's value to PC Gamers.10\10
