I wrote a ridiculously long review and pressed the back button so it's gone now.

Doom Eternal is a flawed masterpiece. Extremely great gameplay, if sometimes overwhelming compared to Doom 2016. The story is a downgrade; too many pieces of information presented without enough things getting fleshed out-- it lacks the simple elegance of 2016.

More than makes up for it with the fast paced combat and varied map design. Excellent game; the closest type of adrenaline to playing DOOM II I've felt since playing DOOM II. Do yourself a favor and play this great FPS.

Early Access Review
You don't need Rising Storm. You don't need insurgency. You don't need Squad.
You need Foxhole.

It's like a roguelike, but without the elements that make roguelikes entertaining.

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam

Of a select few games, RS2 was my most anticipated release of 2017. After falling in love with RO2 and RS1's gritty cinematism with engaging gameplay, I could not wait for Tripwire to release their next title set in the most underappreciated and hardest to represent theater of war: Vietnam.

Needless to say, when word came around regarding the beta, I enthusiastically filled out my application and waited ever patiently for my invitation, confident that I would recieve a masterpiece, however unpolished.

What I DID recieve, however, was far bellow my expectations. The gameplay was not only buggy, but it was uninspired and overall unbalanced, and it did not mesh well at all with the two maps in play, Song Be and Hue city. RS2 had thoroughly dissapointed me, despite how much I wanted to love it.

I never bought the game until months later. Just a week or so after the Bushranger update, I picked it up while it was on sale for 10-something dollars. Oh boy, I'm glad I did.

I'm not quite sure how to quantify it exactly, but Tripwire did a 180 with this game. If you were to play through RO2 and RS1 and then pick up RS2, it stands amongst them as a proud game worthy of its franchise title. The balance is good, save for a few underpowered weapons (mosin, cough cough), and the gameplay flows naturally from the theater in hand and meshes nicely with the beautifully made maps; it plays and feels like a Vietnam war movie-- albeit more like Platoon as opposed to Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket-- and the addition of position VOIP is priceless. It's a mixture of horror and hilarity when you're being beseiged at all angles by VC yelling, "GO HOME GI. WE PROTECT RICE" in crude Asian accents while a comrade to your right affixes a kabar to his Aussie rifle and boldly proclares over VOIP, "You ever seen a knife, Charlie? Now THIS is a knife," before storming into their ranks.

Overall:

8.5/10 would yell "protect rice" in voice chat again

Still better than anything EA has or will produce.
