In it's Own Niche

Honestly coming to this after Elite Dangerous I was skeptical of how I would enjoy the game. To be honest, the main story didn't make sense to me for a very long time and actually I finally gave up on the missions altogether. What I have found most appealing about this title is the exploration, the warping, the freighters, and the planets. Since most of your upgrades can be gotten quite early on, it's really about finding cool ships, weird planets, collecting eggs and cosmetics, and honestly at this point every basic thing I could do, I have done. But I still find myself coming back to game - to see what's new or checking portal co ords for a neat ship.
To be 100% honest - once I discovered how to mess with my save - that literally breathed another 200 hours into this.
Once I learned how to edit .json files - gave me another 50. But overall now I just roam the infinite cosmos putting my name to discoveries that mean nothing.
But for some reason, I enjoy it as do many others.
There is no real direction to take - you do what you want. I think that might be a big confusion to some. Most find that doing all the 'things in game' consider their playthrough done, but there are far far more things than what they intended you do be doing. I've seen bases on planets that are nothing more than light shows, I've taken part in animal companion fashion shows, I've worked with others to create planets of nothing but materials for new players to use. The sharing and the community are pretty decent as long as you stay away from the Anomaly at first since many love to give you things you aren't sure what they for.
Improvements for the future? Absolutely but for now I'm just heading off into another black hole to see what kind of robot red crimson planets are out there then head down to see something new.
I freaking love this game but I don't know why. It might be because other games I have put time into have never given me satisfaction like this. ED for example you grind to grind in order to idk grind for upgrades but then pay parking rent in space for it. From one station to the next, shipping whatever to whoever I don't even remember their names.
But this game, at least it gives you that feeling of seeing a planet and being llike "Hmm, let's check it out" so you head down, check it out, put a base down, live there, destroy all living things on it, or simply sit and stare as the mushrooms that are glowing all around you have made you.
