Anything Tropico is a must for any fans of city or colony building games. It's one of the best franchises in the genre. Along with solid gameplay you get very excellent, vibrant soundtracks that vary from game to game. The $4.99 sale price caught my eye. You would be remiss in not snatching this up at that price even though Tropico 6 is coming around the corner. The game is a delight.

Kingdoms and Castles is a fairly simple colony simulator with a lot of potential. There's not as much content and variety of buidlings as I expected but it's got a solid foundation. I was expecting something like Godus but it's more strategic. I can see that with more buidlings and stats of individuals this would really shine.

I have to laugh at the players who play the game for 800 hours and then decide to give it a bad review. I consider a game good if I play it for 800 minutes.

If you played for 800 hours, you loved it. You loved it, you married it, you moved in and you remodeled the kitchen.

It's a great game. You can be super creative. I play with friends and we all do different things. One likes exploring. One likes taming. I like building and creating efficiency. And then we all scream like little girls when things go wrong. It's fun.

Rimworld : Videogames :: Books : Movies

The simple graphics and absence of dialogue force the player to mentally build each character's personality in the same way a reader is forced to imagine character appearances and settings. My sense of attachment to a character is greater when I've been creating in her in my mind for hours - much more so than when someone else creates her with detailed looks and a pre-defined voice and mannerisms.

I can hear the complaints from the cook after she gets her daily schedule. I feel bad for the drug addict because he's so miserable and yet still working. In a mine. By himself. And oh my god I didn't even build a torch for him...

I won't usually entertain older or retro looking games too often because I want realism or quality artistic style in my graphics. Kind of a graphics snob. Rimworld gets a VIP pass though. Excellent game.

PS - I would love it if Rimworld and The Sims screwed and had a baby and then that baby went for sale on Steam.

I was looking for a 3D Rimworld, and this comes pretty close. I feel more of an emotional attachment to dwellers in Rimworld, but this does a nice job. I've been having a great time with it so far. It's a solid colony manager/builder focused on directing individual dwellers to do jobs and advance the colony.

The potential for creativity is great here, but one big drawback here is the building UI. As long as this thing has been in development, the UI should be greatly simplified and responsive. If you like precision and detail in your buildings, you can do it, but they DON'T make it easy. Walls are unneccesarily built with columns on the end which greatly complicate what should be a very, very simple task. You know how easy it is to build in the Sims? Well, the developers of Stonehearth don't. The custom UI layout makes me think they've seen the Sims, but the execution of the UI makes me think they never actually played it. Something as simple as deleting a wall doesn't even exist in Stonehearth as far as I can tell.

This is sad because I just end up going with the pre-desgined buildings to save me the headache of struggling, so the colony isn't 100% built by me.

Mining can also get frustrating as the AI has the ability to trap itself from time to time. Make friends with ladders and learn how to cancel a mining zone in order to save you some frustration.

Despite the building woes, it's still a fun game that I would recommend to fans of the building/creating/managing genre.

I use VR to workout all the time. I tend to buy games that have strong physical elements and cardio potential. I considered Superhot VR at first glance but then ended up getting it after a friend recommended it. In my 1.1 hours of play I managed to hit two walls, smash my thumb on a subwoofer outside my play area because I thought I was bracing myself on a weapons crate, work muscles that haven't been worked in a while to the point of exhaustion and then pain. "The game will test your limits. It will make you hurt." <--- this happened.

It says the game is a standing play area and not room scale? Maybe I'm just overly dramatic, but I have a decent sized area and I was still hitting things in the real world. I'm glad I got silicon controller covers.

That said, wow! My expectations were exceeded. The game is immenesely satisfying. The object is simple. Hit the bad guys while not getting hit. How you manage to do that depends on the tools at your disposal, your setting and your plan of attack. Some levels can be steamrolled with brute force and some need to be more calculated. I'm a big fan of the place where athleticism meets gaming and strategy. This game delivers on that.
