My thumbs down should not be taken as I dislike the game. I actually quite like the game,

BUT ...

There are so many basic things that need to be fixed, which I think they are probably going to address as development progresses.

There's almost nothing you can do to prevent Spaghetti. If you're familiar with this genre, you know what I mean.

Also, the back ups are currently not fixable.

The roads are WAAAAAY too short. I should also be able to add "nodes" wherever I want to. If they want a 'minimum' distance between nodes, fine, but then give us an unlimited length of road and the ability to slap down nodes later.

The "cars" should be tweaked to not only move faster, but to transfer faster.

The game is cool, but the options currently available don't allow you to really fix anything. It also kinda' feels like a puzzle game rather than a resource management game or city builder.

Anyway, I will recommend the game after I see implementation of better things, but until then, I'm passing along a no vote. To be clear, though, I will buy this game when it comes out. It is nice and otherwise well made. I have faith in the devs to fix this stuff.

This game far exceeds the capabilities of a massive corporation with 10s of millions to spend on the development of said game, with multiple developers working in conjunction with each other, yet this game was built by 1 person?

Wt actual f?

Um, this game is already so well developed and executed that the dev should charge $49.99 - $59.99 for the darned thing. No, seriously, it's that high quality.

This game has so many moving parts and mechanics that it has a steep learning curve but while I keep restarting, I enjoy just watching the game unfold because it's absolutely gorgeous. Wow.

As much as I enjoyed this game, I won't support a developer (or publisher) that is abusive and exploitative. The leader of Chucklefish allegedly had kids working on this game, for free. They told musicians they wouldn't be paid to score the game and when they bucked against working for free, the leader flipped out and went on a screed.

Chucklefish -- laughable. Never again, Chucks. Never again.

Okay, so I wanted to give this review an overhaul. I was trying to be funny the first time around but this game deserves a good review. Yes, absolutely, I recommend this game, ESPECIALLY at the price point they're offering it.

If you enjoy logic puzzles or automation games, I believe you will really love this. This is a gem of a game that could revamp this whole genre.

Now, it IS a buggy mess at times. I went to sleep one night, woke up, fired up Craft101 and started naming functions, as I always do, and it was supposed to be a function to makeFire.

It ended up being mmaakkeeFFiirree. lol - it is duplicating every letter. It is known by the dev and I imagine will be patched soon enough, but there are bugs galore in the game.

But even with these bugs (some annoying, some devastating), the game is still worth picking up, even if only to support Luden.io.

To think of the gameplay, imagine you have 5 bonfires and you have 3 bots, 2 that are making 'fire' (an item in the game that you can place into bonfires) and you receive 1 additional bot. Since you can't spread it out to cover all 5 bonfires, you have to use logic.

You could then write a function that will have that new bot maintainFire, where they go by, check one bonfire to see if it has 'x' - 'y' fire inside, and if it doesn't, have it either go make more fire, or pull fire from a location (storage container), then place in that bonfire, then, once it reaches the minimum, your bot goes and checks the 2nd, then the 3rd, then the 4th, then the 5th, and then resets the loop.

You write code by using visual nodes. For example, there is a "find and pick" node, which you could select 'fire' and your bot would go find a 'fire' item and grab it. Then, you can connect that 'find and pick' to a 'drop to', then select the bonfire you want it to drop the fire off at (to keep bonfire going) and then the bot does that.

You can then do 'if/then' statements, so, 'if fire > 5, do x, if fire < 5, do y'. But all with visual nodes.

It's very intuitive and really drives home logic. It would definitely be great for kids.

Anyway, this game is awesome - probably one of my favorite games I've seen in YEARS. So, buy it!

Great concept, tbh. It reminds me of many other games, like FTL, etc. I would definitely pay money for the game if they charged, but only once they add the ability to put the game into windowed mode. Alt+Enter doesn't even work. I can't really even play very much of it w/o the ability to put it in windowed.

But, even with that issue, I do recommend the game. The bullets probably need balancing, though. Great concept, great artwork, great playstyle.

**edit**

It appears the functionality for windowed mode does exist by pressing 'F' - sweet.

Definitely a game you'll want to play.

How this game costs so much and is "Very Positive" is beyond comprehension. The voice acting is not good, the quality of the gfx is not good, the script is not good, the combat is absolute trash and everything is linear.

Refunding. Jeez.

This game might be worth like $10, but in no way is this game worth what they're asking. Like, it's really bad, y'all.

This is an EA game that I paid for. If you want feedback, as a company that produced a multi-million dollar game (PA), then you can read your Steam forum since that's where the game is available. I'm not going to go out of my way to ♥♥♥♥' Github to leave you feedback.

If you don't want to read Steam discussions then fk you.

I bought this and the God of War bundle and I'm very disappointed. Both games are essentially the same, but with different game types and different graphics, but the fundamentals are just carbon copies of each other.

Not only that but the games are VERY shallow. This one, Backpack, is literally just the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. I was able to see that it was the same thing with what little play time I have (1.2 hours). I literally got bored with it in that time. Both games, actually.

I love roguelikes and bullet hell games, but these are just cheap knock-offs that cost way too much for what you get. Feels almost like an asset flip/carbon copy of all the other games. Easy to churn out, simple, nothing gameplay.

Save your money. I'm getting a refund.

I do not recommend the game, but with a caveat - I don't recommend the game unless it's on sale. It's a good game but very, VERY shallow.

Despite the, odd, "overwhelmingly positive" reviews, the game doesn't have much to offer but the same ol' thing over and over and over again with very little in the way of changing playstyle. The best weapons are the best weapons, even if those weapons are low tier, they're still better than most high tier of any other weapon. Don't get that weapon? Lol. Sorry?

The "upgrades" from the basecamp (the thing that makes this a roguelite) are basically useless. Sure, they add a little help but not a whole lot. Many of the "upgrades" are to increase the chance that you'll get, for example, higher level or higher tier weapons, but despite putting "wrenches" into those, they don't seem to work all that well. I remember the 2nd upgrade to the 'increase weapon rarity' was followed by 3 whites, 1 green, none of which were the good weapons.

This game appears to really center around achievement hounds who just want to "beat" or "finish" everything. For example, you can get a battle buddy that is absolutely useless. But, it's there. For no real reason. You can trade out a weapon slot (you only get 2) for it but, yeah, it really isn't good. Go ahead, level him up .... use up those power cells. It still sucks but, you did it! Yay you.

The game play really is solid, though. The graphics are pretty killer. But, the mechanics of the game leave much to be desired and you'll end up just doing the same levels over and over and over and over and over again just to "get that thing that sucks."

If I were you, I wouldn't spend more than $14.99 on the game. It's not worth $25, imo. There's just not enough there. I've played 14 hours and actually reached the boss level in my first two hours of play time because I just happened to get the right drops on the right class with the right weapon. It's basically the only way you can win. Skill won't get you there. "choices" won't really get you there either. You can't make a good build from things that drop by changing your strategy - it's just not a thing in this game.

You have to RNG the right weapons, the right level perks w/the right gadgets. If you don't, you won't get very far. When you do, you'll get to the boss and you'll get snagged in multiple ridiculous hacks (that take control of you) or "stunned" over and over again. Instead of the enemies being "harder," they just throw cheesy "difficulty" tactics at you and "yay you" if you happen to have a build that will overcome it.

Skill isn't the winner or loser in this game - RNG is. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the game. But, they really need to fix this stuff. I shouldn't rely on certain weapons with every playthrough. But, that's the way it is.
