An absolute blast to play, managing to outclass every other F-Zero game in terms of pure game feel. It plays like a sequel to GX, capturing that exhilarating speed and precision, but refined even further. I was hesitant about the air sections at first, and while I still prefer the solid ground, the air sections turned out to be a lot of fun. They fit the same sense of speed and control as the rest of the game once you get a hang of the brilliant midair spin dive mechanic. In fact, the courses are all very well-designed and enjoyable; I never find myself slogging through a course, and I always look forward to the next.

The aesthetics are an absolute treat, too. They draw mostly upon the comic book era of F-Zero X, with a rogue's gallery of original pilots straight out of a sci-fi Wacky Races. The course aesthetics are a solid baseline, with some looking very distinctive and pleasant. However, many of the courses could still use some extra detail and texture work to fill in the visual gaps. Some of them have checkerboard patterns on large sections, and I honestly can't tell if they're intended to look that way or just placeholders.

The main thing holding this game back is the low amount of content, which is to be expected from an early access title. At the time of writing, there are well over a dozen tracks to race on, and 20 pilots available, which make plenty of combinations for racing variety. Unfortunately there's not a lot of glue to hold everything together as a cohesive experience, right now. There's a career mode, which is mission-based, featuring both regular races and challenges similar to GX's story mode, and a bit of flavourful write-up before each mission. Then there's grands prix, single races, time trials, and practice runs, all of which have no context or theming outside of pure racing. That's all there is to the game right now. It's a blast to play, but with nothing to grind away at like GX's massive catalogue of unlockables, it's hard to stay invested in the racing grind for long. For reasons beyond my understanding, there isn't even a local high score board for time trials.

All that said, this is an amazing successor to F-Zero, improving mechanically upon everything the series has done so far. An absolute must play for any F-Zero fan or anyone even remotely interested in a sci-fi racing game. A bit light on content right now, but showing major promise with what's already there.

(please add saved times for laps and courses I'm begging you)

This game is overflowing with charm and polished quality. The art and music are an absolute treat to experience, and every character in the game is designed and written with Dan's signature, and seemingly effortless, creativity. The battle system is simple, yet still unique and thoughtful.

If you're looking for a funny, lighthearted RPG that's been crafted with a lot of love and care, don't miss this one!

This game's development is baffling to me. The developers and artists have spent an insane amount of time adding new content, new and expanded features, hundreds of beautiful animated sex scenes (all by the talented akaimono), incredible CG scenes, really nice UI visuals, and really solid stories and questlines throughout the game. It is a treat to just explore the world and see everything and everyone there is on offer.

However, this is in contrast to the core state of the game and gameplay itself. The game is built in RPG Maker and you can REALLY feel it, with the stiff 8-directional movement, the awkward overworld perspective, tiny tile-sized sprites, extremely few visual/display options, often finicky or unresponsive UI, and a janky real-time overworld combat system. The controller support is also less than ideal, as you need to be loaded ingame already to activate controller input, and the buttons are non-rebindable, which is especially jarring because the "activate/confirm" button is the left face button for some reason.

The game has been more or less like this for as long as I can remember, even years ago when I was playing it before the Steam release. It's baffling to me because of how long these core issues have gone largely unpolished, when so much genuine love and care was put into other parts of the game over the years.

With all that said, I think I would still recommend this game, but only if you can tolerate what I mentioned above, and go in expecting it. There's no denying that the game has a serious lack of polish at its core. But, if you can get past that, there's a huge amount of hot and endearing and satisfying things to discover, which just barely tip the scales for me into recommending it. Just be careful around the dog.

The game strikes an excellent balance between the mechanical simplicity of games like Street Fighter and the deeper systems of games like Blazblue. It isn't as overwhelming as Guilty Gear or even Blazblue for beginners, and is an excellent entry-level fighting game while maintaining enough depth to satisfy more dedicated fighting game players. The game's aesthetic and overall structure is cohesive and satisfying, and the characters are portrayed and animated beautifully.

At such a modest price point, especially for Skullgirls owners, I would recommend Them's Fightin' Herds anyone with even a slight interest in fighting games. The promise of more content and characters even after the full release is icing on the cake.

I don't think the game deserves its current negative score. The issue most people had with the game was that it wasn't what was promised by the developers, and the game was shallower in general upon launch.
Since then, it has become a much better game. The developers have shown their commitment to making the game better through consistent patches that have added more content and conveniences to the game, such as surprisingly robust base building and ground vehicles.

The game itself right now is a fun and relaxing space explorer, and is great to sink many hours into, though I would maybe get it on sale as I don't think it's currently worth its full price.
Given their commitment to regular content additions and improvements, I trust that the game will only get better.

Apparently this game was poorly recieved when it was first released, but I can't say anything about that as I picked it up when update 4.0 was released.
As of the current version, this game is fantastic. Some weird dialogue is about the only complaint I have; otherwise this game is a phenomenal space empire builder. Combat is solid and satisfying, graphics are lovely, the simulated economy models are astoundingly complex, and the variety of different play styles you can go forth with make the game a little bit different for everyone. The detailed encyclopedia is also very accessible and helpful for learning about the game world.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a space game with a lot of depth.

For local multiplayer hilarity, there's not much more fun to be had than this game right here. The dynamic physics and simple gameplay come together to make a game that's always making new funny moments and great fun.

I haven't really played any sniper-centric games before, but this game is phenomenal. It's incredibly satisfying to land a far-off headshot, especially with the X-ray view feature. Definitely recommended.
