It's neat so far and I would like to see it improved when its release arrives. I agree with other comments about the mission length and pacing being a bit off. There could definitely be more breathing room - you also can't pause the game when hosting a mission solo, and since enemies are spawning nonstop that can really present friction with real life.

Importantly, I'd like to add that it is not very well optimized despite not having a lot of graphical fidelity. Even with lowered settings and capped FPS it's making my pretty good graphics card heat up quite a lot.

cool spin on a familiar formula. fun synergies, broken builds, and doomed runs in between.

i love how weird it is. i don't love how hard it is to find food and water as a new player, i wish there were any amount of direction at all, a map, player pings, waypoints, anything to make navigating easier. the tutorial also needs a lot of work, so much goes unexplained

despite all its flaws im glad it exists. it deserves to exist. the world needs more weird ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like this. but it would really benefit from a little more QoL

bethesda sure can make an open world fun to explore but they sure can't put anything interesting to do in it

edit: and no copypasted review from developer support is going to change my mind

Great art style, character design, and environment design. Lots of fun graffiti to look at. The vibe feels a bit like playing Smash Bros with all items enabled. For only ten bucks it's a steal.

My only remaining major concern is that, in order to play with friends, you must have 2 people or 4 people: if you are in a group of 3 it is not really feasible to play together in the current available modes; any more than 4 and you'll have to split up the group somehow.

I previously left a negative review for this game that I have since retracted. Since writing it, the game has received some serious balance passes that addressed a lot of my major concerns with it. Below are my thoughts on those changes.

I have only played with friends since ranked was introduced, but it's a little strange to be affected by private matches with friends instead of only in matchmaking, though as I haven't used matchmaking yet it hasn't really affected me much.
Medkit and self-destruct still feel pretty strong but I do get the sense that most other cards are on a more even playing field now. Closing the gap between new players/high level players with the card level differences has felt pretty good too, I don't feel like I have as much of a straight numbers advantage anymore, and with the progression boost they have an easier time catching up even if they can't play as much.

Overall I'm quite pleased with these updates and I'm grateful to the devs for their work on them. I'm excited to see how this game grows in the future.

i'm still really bad at touhou, but this one's got me hooked more than any yet. the item mechanic is absolutely wonderful. the music is as good as ever. i finally feel like i'm tangibly improving, even though i'm playing on easy mode. this game seems like a good on-ramp for either new players, or players who haven't played in a long time.

I played this game during the free weekend in March 2021. I have not yet purchased it, and at the time of writing this review I do not plan to, even for the sale price of $7.49.

I do want to like this game. I enjoy the premise on multiple levels - I like a looty-shooty, open-world survival game, I like a fashion souls, and I like being able to hang out in a world with my friends. The atmosphere is nice, if a bit repetitive due to reuse of prefab houses and such. It's also got the best rideable bikes I've personally experienced in a game.
Unfortunately, the game simply does not feel complete. I double checked to make sure the game wasn't in early access before writing this review, and I cannot believe it has been out for more than two years.
Player and enemy movement is extremely janky - multiple times, I got stuck in a random bit of scenery and had to fast travel back to a waypoint and retrace my steps back to where I was. Enemies clip under the ground, becoming unhittable and unseeable but still able to shoot you. They'll also kind of teleport around during movement, not over a great distance but enough that you're going to miss almost all shots against non-stationary enemies. It looks like they're lagging due to latency... but this was in single-player. Speaking of, I really just don't like that you can't pause in single-player.
Targeting interactable objects is also really, really bad. For about half of the stuff I interacted with (car trunks/doors, containers, lootable corpses, etc), I had to wiggle myself and my crosshair around looking for an invisible "sweet spot" before I could interact with it - most angles just wouldn't allow me to interact.
Melee does not feel good. I get it, they're armored robots, but if you're going to give me a bat and make me scrounge for every last bullet of ammo at the beginning of the game, at least make it usable. Having to use the stamina meter to close your distance on unpredictably-moving enemies, then having to use more of that meter to attack... you may as well just not even have melee weapons in the game.
I'm also not a fan of the hyper-emphasis on hitting the weak point - this is an important part of any first-person shooter, but hitting any part of the enemy that isn't the gas tank has so little impact that it just feels like a missed shot, and a wasted bullet. Doesn't feel good at all when ammo is so limited early-game.
This is more minor, but some of the spawn points in bunkers are kinda bad too. Having to use and recharge the sprint meter 3 times from where the game spawns you in before you're actually back out in the world is just not fun.
The UI is not great either. I had read some other reviews claiming that it used to be much better and allowed you to to some quick inventory-management type things mid-skirmish, and given the way the weapon loadout system works this feels like it would have been very useful. You can have 2 "main" weapons and a sidearm. I wish you could just pick 3 weapons to have equipped instead of having them arbitrarily categorized and slot-locked.
Game also crashed to desktop once upon opening a random container in a house.
My experience with this game was limited, but it did not leave me wanting to play more. I hope this game improves because I really do feel like it has potential, but I cannot recommend it in its current state.

there's a neat story in there that touches on interesting themes of the division between self and body, and it's so wrapped up in monetization that it's devastatingly tedious to actually grind through anything without spending any money.

edit 4/27/21: i regret to inform you that it is still a pretty good dressup game
