This is now the last Crusader Kings II game to feature the words "Deus Vult!" and a positive depiction of the defense of Christian lands by the Crusaders. As such I recommend to buy this and ignore CKIII.

This is the ultimate medieval dynasty simulator. You rule over realms in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, the Asian Steppes, Tibet and India and have many different cultures and all christian faiths at your disposal and yes, you can change both during the game.

You play one character at a time, a person with skills, virtues and flaws which has inherited titles, prestige, money and also claims on titles from his parents. You can wage war, but only when you have a proper (medieval) reason to do so.

Holy War, assassination plots, cheating on your spouse and inheritance of land just through succession will be part of your daily routine if you play this game. You can work your way up from a low Count title to becoming an Emperor, become a heretic, annihilate cultures and religions and make your dynasty the most powerful one in the world of CKII, dominating the world from Portugal to India and from Norway to Ethiopia for centuries.

The expansions allow you to try different religions (Norse Pagans, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews...), different governmental systems (Eastern Rome, Trade Republics...) or expand the gameplay in other directions (deeper focus on roleplaying or certain religions, earlier start dates etc).

Buy this game. But be warned, it's about characters, not about optimizing economy or developing technology. Another warning: It will eat up your time...
