this game is pretty trash. the beginning was horrible and honestly made no sense, a space game with very little cool space stuff, and I mean that seriously.

its just wild to me how out of touch Bethesda has become

been playing this game since I was in 8th grade right after the z-axis was added. I'm 29 now. I can't really put into hours how much I've played this as it's been ever present since I was a child with access to the internet.

this isn't a game, it's the magnum opus of a genius who has dared to challenge god in the art of creation.

You'll be thrust into managing the dominant lifeform in this bizarre universe, dwarfs. Creatures that literally require alcohol to function efficiently. Whether you're farming cats for meat, building a mega project to honor the blood god Armok, or designing the irrigation canals for your underground farms, you'll quickly realize where games like rimworld or timberborn got their inspiration. Every top down simulation game of the past 15 years has taken inspiration from dwarf fortress and when you play it you'll understand how nothing has come close to what dwarf fortress has accomplished.

is it pretty? no, never was. Is it better looking now? absolutely. the UI is passable for a newcomer without much time investment.

is it hard? that depends, its easy to have fun, but it's hard to master every mechanic. There is a never ending chain of systems within systems. the level of detail is quite literally unmatched in gaming.

so yeah I guess I recommend this game

This is a terrible version of old Runescape. like some kind of mobile game that's being forced onto pc. In today's market there are an infinite amount of better choices. This game has no redeeming qualities. this is not a sandbox,I REPEAT THIS IS NOT A SANDBOX GAME. Openworld yes, mmo yes! sandbox? NO. They bastardize the term to sell the game but there aren't sandbox features, minecraft is a sandbox, this is stupid.

UI is sparse and not very streamlined. B is your backpack, okay fine, and equipment gear is on the side of your screen? icons are incredibly tiny with basic key functionality not there, such as hitting escape to leave a container screen. You can scale the UI but then you have giant icon borders sticking into view.

The sound effects are bad, clicking on everything sounds like free unity sound assets were thrown through a high gain echo chamber, it's grating and very low quality. The music is from some 90's synth board that should have stayed in the closet.

Graphics, models and animations, are borderline browser based game level, you'll have no problem running this game on ultra and unlimited fps.

Sandbox gameplay isn't there, there aren't any rich creation features there are instead a couple of instanced building plots you can grind for. This is more like a "swimming pool" that's 4 inches deep. NPC's are an after thought with terrible dialogue and text box options. You're given the option to spawn into a large number of villages with nothing more than a name to go off of. First "quest" I got was to gather 50 cotton, I spent 48mins and was only able to find 1 cotton plant off in the woods. There is no direction here, this does not have a populated vibrant world to interact with.

Veteran game players are desperately trying to fill the void left by developers and open shops by grinding non combat skills but message boards aren't in yet and plots have been limited on what they can sell. You can see them running around already with packs of tamed horses and rats.

this game is terrible and comes off as a cash grab with more effort put into it's image rather than it's code.

Really fun game. Great implementation really sets the stage for massive PvP fights. My favorite moment so far has been sneaking up on a enemy position and laying them out while they get pushed from another side by my buddy.
