I did not grow up on Halo. I got into it fairly recently. Got the game back when Halo 2: Anniversary was about to release and waited for the rest of the games to come out. Having just finished all the campaigns, I can say that it is a fairly competent shooter, however I enjoyed it much more for the story.
I'm very much into sci-fi and this universe offered a lot for me to sink my teeth into. I enjoyed each character and how they interacted with each other. The universe itself is very compelling and learning about the history of each factions and their species was very enjoyable to me. I've spent hours looking into background lore online and replaying levels in order to find the data terminals that reveal more of the story.
I can't say much for the multiplayer as I haven't played much yet, but it does offer multiple game modes and level creators that should be able to satisfy both competitive and casual players. I feel this is a good purchase for general fans of sci-fi and shooters alike. I can certainly see why the franchise has been so popular even after nearly 20 years.
