A great game ruined by Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. I will not play this game if it requires a PSN account here in Steam. Never. I'll vote with my wallet, and my mouse. Do not get into this game until Sony has buckled and removed the requirement for a PSN account.

Too bad for Arrowhead, which is among the best developers in the industry at the moment. Here we see it again, a major industry company ruining a great development studio. This industry is eating itself from the inside out, all for a dollar.

The first 20 hours were rough, mostly due to immense expectations I had for the game. After leveling up a bit, getting better gear, weapons, a better ship, the game slowly grew on me, reaching pretty awesome levels. Getting better and better, hour after hour.

That said, the game engine is so fraking old, and it shows. It was already too old 8 years ago with Fallout 4, and now it's well past it's retirement. The same old cell loading is stupid and cumbersome, breaking the immersion at every turn. Small things like when loading into a cell (let's say from a planet's surface back in to my ship), and not being able to move until couple of seconds later, waiting for the black screen to fade out, hitting that move button again and again, is absolutely driving me crazy. A minor issue, yes, but it terribly destroys my moment to moment experience with this game, because you're loading into cells every other minute. The developers should take greater care to avoid breaking the experience like this, but as we all know, they leave it to the modding community, which is already hard at work to fix many glaring problems with the game, and to enhance the experience for PC gamers.

For example, as simple as opening the menus takes forever in the vanilla game. Open inventory, wait for 3 seconds for it to open. Exit the inventory, wait for another useless 3 seconds of nothing-animations to fade away. Such a low IQ design. "Undelayed Menus" mod will fix this, making the use of menus much, MUCH faster and more fluid.

Hate the same docking and undocking animation every time? The mod called "Ship Skip - Instant Station Docking and More by Bub" will save your nerves and time. Climbing ladders in a ship is an absolute pain in everyone's rearend, and takes forever. How is this design approved by anyone?

Take a sit on your pilot seat, watch the same stupid animation for 5 seconds, every time. Get up from your pilot seat, watch the same idiotic animation for 5 seconds, every time, AGAIN! I have to use the "Ultra-Anim - Faster Interaction Animations By Bub" because these animations give me brain cancer.

I truly, deeply, hate these idiotic animations in any game. The disrespect of player's time by the developers is staggering, and should be addressed right away.

Also, I'm playing between home and my work studio, in Steam, and Steam cloud save limit caught up quickly. Now I can't play at home, since the cloud doesn't have my latest saves from my work PC. I made sure on my work PC that Steam cloud was 100% up to date when I left yesterday. Now typing this on my home PC, the next morning, and I don't have the savefiles available from last night. So I'm missing some 7 hours of gameplay at home. I need to turn off Steam cloud for Starfield, and start moving savefiles between these 2 PCs with a USB stick. What a time to be alive, in late 2023!

The main storyline is a bit of a miss, but it's ok, since many of the side questlines are amazing. I recommend to play the Freestar Rangers questline early in the game, in Akila city in Cheyenne. It'll give you good XP, nice gear and one of the best starships in the game, early. Then you can simply upgrade and modify that ship until the end of times.

Overall, a vast and beautiful. somewhat empty, world, with magnificent wonder, raging plunder, space opera thunder and technical blunder. Stories told within are mostly great, if you simply ignore the main storyline. Do not rush the main story, stay away from it until you've done everything else.

I recon this can only get better from this point forward, as the modding community always saves these titles. We will also, undoubtedly, get many DLCs and expansions for this game in the years to come.

Loving the game and hating the game engine. TES6 is being build with the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game engine, so we suffer it through the years, when it should've been dead 10 years ago.

I give this game 7/10 vanilla, 8/10 with mods (getting better with time). I recommend it with a warning: if you're even a bit as neurotic as I am, you're going to feel very deep frustration with this game, every other minute. Take note.

EDIT: This review was written when I had 84 hours in the game. Generally an ok game. However, 140 gameplay hours later (some 220+ hours in total), I no longer recommend this game. It's just an empty shell after all said and done. Mindless grind for bad taste in your mouth afterwards. What a waste of time. Just like Fallout 4, after couple of hundreds of hours, it just becomes a meh experience, and all I can remember later is the bland and boring aspects of it. It was fun at times, but only because I really, really, wanted to like this game. Now I want nothing to do with it, ever again. The biggest gaming disappointment of all time, right with Cyberpunk 2077. Both leaving nothing but anger and and frustration behind them.

Microtransactions. Microtransactions. Microtransactions. And no sharing of designs.
Such a shame. Seems like a pretty fun game otherwise, but I'm totally fed up with this predatory, money-milking, b*llsh*t we have in almost all games these days. I'm not interested anymore, and my son will never play this game as far as I can control it, until he is 18 and can make up his own mind with his own money (he is 5yo now, so long to go). Was waiting to see if this is something we can play together, but I will never support games like this, with the microtransactions being in the core of the design. Not recommended to anyone. Protect your children from this garbage.

Until the massive performance problems are fixed, I will not recommend to get this on PC.
With a 5800X, 32Gb (2x16Gb) dual-rank 3600Mhz RAM, RTX 3080, NVMe SSD, Win11, constant stuttering, massive framedrops below 20fps and generally an unpleasant experience in technical performance. Very sad, as the game seems great otherwise. I'm just done with the modern "fix it later" mentality. I got the game for free, and I'm fraking sick of it. I can only imagine the anger people feel if they spent their money on this. Shameful display!

EA, if you don't bother to give the developers enough time to make the release a smooth experience for your customers AT RELEASE, we will not bother to review your game properly until it's fixed, if even then (unless you're talking about low IQ, idiotic, game journalists that think "human eye can't see more than 12fps anyway, what are you people complaining about?!?").

Shame on EA for rushing this release out 2-3 months before it was properly optimized, and shame on Respawn defending EA for this sh*t.

Early Access Review
I've played the early access from Feb 20th for about 30 hours now. It wasn't playable via Steam (had to start from the .exe directly), hence the discrepancy with the hours on record in Steam.

As lovely as the game is, I highly recommend to wait for at least couple of months, if not until next year. Over half of the time spend with the game is only fighting the bugs, reloading save games and reverting to VAB or to launch, because of some weird glitch or bug that breaks the game, or makes it impossible to play as intended. Several times the game completely freezes for 5-10 seconds, every 10-20 seconds (5800X, 32Gb RAM, RTX 3080, NVMe SSD), so you can't really play it for long without feeling deep frustration. The longer you play, the more agonizing and unstable it becomes.

In addition to this, the performance is not only "early access" bad, it's horrendous. Usually getting around 4-10 fps while launching a rocket. Checking my PC performance while playing, CPU, RAM nor the GPU are stressed more than 40-50%, so the game is simply broken. The VAB glitches every minute while building a rocket (camera jumps around at random, parts don't react to clicking, the game freezes for several seconds while selecting a part from the parts menu etc...), making the building process very painful. All this with the glitching physics and rocket parts in-flight is a nightmare to swim through. Fun at short times, but only after a brutal, long, beating.

Just wait. They will slowly build this game up during this year, so unless you enjoy pushing splinters under your nails, wait for the better version. Maybe another 6 months in the oven will make this lovely cupcake edible. Now it's raw, and tastes awful.

The game is fun, and offers nice open world adventures with cool characters, but the current PC performance problems are overshadowing all of it.

I get massive frametime stuttering whenever I turn the view with mouse, or when traversing the world. Anywhere between 30-100ms frametime spikes (what I can see from RivaTuner metrics) makes this game nearly unplayable. Often the stutter results in my view sharply turning 100-180 degrees, since the frame freezes and then returns, flipping my view in a totally different direction half a second later. Very annoying when in a heat of combat, taking damage, and it seems the stuttering also negates some of my keyboard and mouse inputs, making me miss dodges and/or hits in a fight. Horrendous performance. I've not experienced stuttering this bad in many years.

Also, none of the super sampling technologies work. DLSS, FSR or XeSS doesn't offer ANY performance boost, no matter what quality setting is set for them. I get nearly identical performance with native 4k and DLSS ultra performance, and the stuttering is always there. A broken game at release, thats all.

I'll consider my review again, when the game is fixed, if I can muster the will to do so.

Playing on AMD 5800X, 32Gb (2x16Gb) dual rank 3600MHz, an RTX 3080 OCed and NVMe SSD. Latest Win11. Nvidia 522.25 drivers. I have no such issues with any other game.

A very calm and nice little game. Pleasant design, music and UI. Offered some 3 hours of a simple campaign/story, after which you can spend more time building your own tanks in a "sandbox" mode without any budget limits.

Would love to see an expanded campaign for this, adding just more of the same, and even with more complex designs for massive tanks and pools, larger fishes, larger outdoor designs, more items to use of many sizes, added decoractions etc. The little we got with this initial gameplay left me wanting more.

Such a shame. A great game held down only by it's technical instability.

Constant crashing, stuttering and unstable framerates. My rig: 5800x, 16Gb RAM, RTX 3080, SSD, so should run just fine. Up-to-date Windows 10, Nvidia drivers and all that. Yea yea.

- Can't use Ray Tracing, it crashes the game constantly. Great to have that graphical feature in the game, when you can't use it. Great to spend huge amount of money on an RTX 3080 to play with Ray Tracing. Except you can't use it with this game.
- Can't use RivaTuner to study the performance, it crashes the game.

Even after taking all these steps to avoid crashing, in order to get the game running properly and steady, it crashes randomly, destroying the experience. I just lost a 2 hour session of careful sneaking, collecting amazing loot, killing targets and whatnot because the game just suddenly crashed to desktop (CPU worker error). There is no autosave during your trip out in the field, so I would have to start over completely with that section, redoing the 2 hour gameplay.

No thank you. I refuse to play a game that is still in beta. Fix the game, make it stable, and then I will play it, and re-evaluate this review.

An amazing FPS game! If you liked Doom 2016, you will most likely like this one as well. There are many differences, like the visuals and general atmosphere of the game, and I kinda liked the 2016 a bit more, but this is still a great game in the series. Highly recommended to all FPS fans 🤘🏻😁

Early Access Review
The game works fine, runs ok, mechanics are solid, and all-in-all otherwise an ok experience. But, seems like a pretty low-effort asset flip with many assets being exactly the same as in some other low-budget games. Similar to WarZ and other survival games in this genre. Unfortunately the servers are empty, and there is little to no reasons to play this game anymore. In a game like this the PvP element is crucial for the atmosphere and tension, and since it's lacking completely, I do not recommend this game for any other than casual gamer who is fine playing alone with only PvE gameplay.
