This game is delightful, with well paced progression, right up to the end and then it sucks. The ending is extremely disappointing. There's a "secret" you can find outside the game, but you're going to have to Google it, and it has nothing to do with the game, so it's just an extra serving of disappointment.

If you play to til the end, you've definitely got your money's worth, but ultimately the game feels like it's a year or more away from release. The 1.0+ version number is misleading. There is no combat at all, which is fine, but it's weird because there are a lot of interesting weapons.

The guts are great, but it really needs combat implemented and mod support if it's going to have any kind of longevity. I still recommend the game, just keep your expectations low, and maybe wait for a discount.

Grossly underwhelming, even for a free game.

Chained Echoes makes significant steps forward in both gameplay and storytelling for the genre as a whole. I'm both loving it, and sad because they don't really make games like this anymore.

Used to be a good game, getting worse and worse with every new league for some time now.

I struggle to write positive reviews because I'm the kind of person that demands perfection in an imperfect world. I have so much feedback about this game, things I'd like to see improved or changed, but at the end of the day, none of that really matters. The truth is, I could not put this game down until it was finished.

As a gamer in my thirties, I was overwhelmed with nostalgia as I played Symphony of War (SoW). The music, the character design, the political intrigue, all of this melded together to deliver an experience that I've been missing for more than a decade. This game stands on the shoulders of titans like Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, but it is no clone. SoW builds on the systems of its forebearers and threatens to establish a whole new genre. SoW is expected to be the first in a series, and the next installment cannot come soon enough. I'll be anxiously waiting to devour the next installment, or any DLC that comes our way.

Thank you to the team at Dancing Dragon Games for a truly delightful experience. Nothing could have prepared me for this.

The game is fun for a few hours, but the amount of content is extremely lacking. This is clearly still "Early Access" levels of completion, and the developer should be embarrassed to have ever given this a 1.0 label, let alone 2.0. If you look at Valheim or Satisfactory in comparison (both of which are still in Early Access), Hydroneer doesn't have a fraction of the content.

The game is fun, and I look forward to a more complete release at some point in the future, but I feel cheated for having bought the game at this stage.

Edit 2: Multiplayer has now been added to the game. Since multiplayer was added as a free update, I will accept that as my apology from the developers for their previous poor responses on the topic. I will not be testing the multiplayer features now that it's safe to play with friends in person, but I'm sure it's a quality update. The game was high quality from the start. With this update, I absolutely recommend the game. I haven't changed this review to a thumbs up because that deletes all of the ratings for my review.

Edit: On 02/09/21 the developers decided to lock the only active topic on the discussion board, a topic with 70+ players voicing their concerns about the lack of multiplayer. Their excuse for locking the topic was an off-topic troll hurling a single juvenile insult. This is a ridiculous excuse since they could just have easily moderated the troll instead. Buyer beware. Do not support companies that choose to arbitrarily censor their communities when they do not like the feedback.

The single player design is fantastic, but this is a game that demands to be played with friends. The local co-op tag is highly misleading. Two people CANNOT play this game at the same time. Only one person can interact with the board at a time and quality takes a huge dive for anybody not on the host computer. It's a terrible experience. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this game until dedicated multiplayer is added.
