a wonderful, if somewhat simple, game that has a surprisingly deep story and lots of mysteries to solve.

I am extremely critical of this games idea of "end game content" when it entirely lacks a meaningful match making system and relies entirely on players to make the in game economy work, meaning that if you get stuck somewhere, you actively have to wait for other people to get there, and if noone ever gets there when you are around, well tough luck i suppose.... and the lack of any meaningful repair mechanic compared to how quickly you wear out equipment, especially in end game content which is all at level or above, means that if you havent been consistently sharding every single drop you get then you wont ultimately be able to sustain yourself.

I REALLY want to like new world but like, either it just isn't the game for me, or its just not a well made game at all by modern standards.... like back in the early 2000s this would be amazing because that was the style at the time, but now... its just incredibly tedious and the fact that the game still has no real user concurrency worth mentioning means that group building for specific things is incredibly difficult and relies on base communication and coordination in a very cumbersome interface. the combat is great, the story is actually incredible, and the weapon design and deployment is top notch, but like.... it feels like they made the game 10 times more difficult than it needs to be for anything other than a hardcore dedicated group of friends. if you don't consistently have a dedicated group to keep going, eventually you are just fighting a war of attrition which is incredibly frustrating.

I desperately DESPERATELY want to enjoy this game, and until i hit the 55+ regions of the game, i generally did, but the lack of industry standard matchmaking systems for dungeons and the seemingly by design toughness of the zones, added with the lack of any standardized repair system beyond "go break down a bunch of items" has dragged me away from being able to recommend the game. As much as i want to, as much fun as i have had playing through and engaging with the story, it still feels like it was made for an audience that just doesn't exist now. The bygone era of Ultima online and Final Fantasy 11 is over.

MMOs don't have to be brutally punishing and require you to dredge up an entire squadron of other players to get the most basic tasks done...like, i dunno who this game is for but i am genuinely sad that it doesn't seem to be for me because frankly EVERYTHING about it, on its own, is amazing, the combat is smooth and fun, the weapons are diverse enough in form and function that 2 people may run the same weapon entirely differently. the scenery is gorgeous, the story is amazing, its just lacking in the bits of an MMO that actually make doing all the grind rewarding in my opinion... it forces you into a dedicated group with no real mechanism to facilitate doing so beyond chat. so why would i spend time bashing my face against a wall in new world when i can go to FF14 and make new friends in a random group?

i can do the same over in WoW.... hell Star Trek online, for all its status as a broken husk of a relic, at least has a proper end game matchmaking system thats cobbled together to allow people who may not have a dedicated group they play with to actually enjoy the game. i REALLY hope that this game continues to get the attention because its clear that the team involved has actual passion for making the game better, and lord help me the game has DRASTICALLY improved from when i first tried it at launch, but right now it doesn't feel like its quite where it needs to be for me to recommend it

Early Access Review
the game is the only damn game i have ever played that ACTIVELY seems to not want me to play it, be it the impossible controls that have somehow gotten worse, that allow me no control over my ship, or getting boarded by a damn border agent and stuck in conversation loop that does not end when the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ agrees to leave me the hell alone and get off my ship.

I have played this game for 237 hours at time of writing, I have seen things I can hardly believe created machines that are the pinnacle of grace and elegance. I still don't have a damn clue how block rotation works.

10/10 would recommend.

This game is single handedly one of the funnest FPS experiences i have ever had, it has a FANTASTIC story that you can experience as much or as little of as you please.

i will admit that the fanbase can be a massive drag as they fail to understand how making a game works but generally they are super helpful. Genuinely can recommend this to anyone what wants to enjoy a surprising ly deep FPS expeirienc

if you enjoy building communities only to watch them be burnt to the ground, I would play this game, current world circumstances not withstanding. sometimes, if you plan just well enough, you may lose your home, but you can kick the imperial bastards in the ass.... also monstergirl and anime girl mods make for good laughs so maybe show those guys some love

This game is a fun, Chaotic free for all of fun (not always an actual free for all) great for when you have to social distance, but want to lop off the heads of your enemies while staring them in the face with friends and randoms alike!
