its like death stranding but its a dating sim

Alright, I originally wrote that as a joke, but the more I play this game, the more it envelops me--as did Death Stranding, but this is... something else entirely.

Normally, I like playing shooter games like Destiny and Helldivers, but Slay the Princess has completely overturned what I thought of as "fun" in a game. It doesn't have moment-to-moment action or cinematic, edge-of-your seat battles (well... maybe a few), but what it does have is a story that has locked me into thinking about it since I bought the game. I have never experienced a story in any form of media that has made me contemplate it as much as this game has. It is so beautifully written, with every possible aspect fleshed out to its fullest. No stone is left unturned, and you are free to explore all sorts of different angles--from sorrow to joy, beauty to pain, and most of all, love. All of these angles culminate in endings that left me (and, evidently, many others) stunned. If that wasn't enough, the soundtrack accompanies every scene magnificently, uplifting a story that is already superb to astronomical levels.

I cannot recommend this game enough. I would happily pay full-price for this: it is a true work of art.

No longer requires PSN. Great job, SNOY, you've still permanently marred this game! Enjoy the sales dip and loss of trust in future deals.

In all seriousness, Helldivers is an amazing game. I don't think I have ever played a game that promotes more cohesiveness with a team and has such a consistently positive community. I've ran into toxic players and griefers about once in my 200+ hours of playtime, which really says something about just how good of a community the game has. Sure, it has some issues, like not being able to properly coordinate on which planets to attack, but I'm sure those problems can be fixed in the future, as the game has only been out for a few months as of the time of this review.

Definitely one of my all-time favorites, and highly, highly recommended.

"DEATHLOOP" takes elements from Dishonored and Prey and mashes them together into a game that is very close to (but not quite reaching) a masterpiece. While the story itself is fairly short, the replayability is very good. There may be only one way to end the loop, but trying to end the loop as fast as possible is quite fun. However, while the singleplayer for this game may be fun, the multiplayer is an entirely different story.

To be fair, the idea of having players invade others playing through the story is a clever one, as you take the role of the antagonist that invades story players herself from time to time. Its execution, though... it's a mess. There are too many problems with multiplayer at the time of writing that I simply cannot recommend playing as Julianna. Latency issues are by far the biggest issue--the game uses a peer-to-peer connection for multiplayer, which, in the vast majority of cases, results in heavy rubberbanding. Not really sure why they don't use the Bethesda servers that they connect you to at the start of the game. The win/loss states of the multiplayer are also incredibly frustrating. If playing as Julianna, you need to kill the other player three times (in some cases less, but most of the time it is three) in order to win. If anything else happens that doesn't result in the other player dying three times, you lose. The other player only has to kill you once, mind you. I could go on and on about how to rebalance the multiplayer to be more enjoyable, but to be concise, playing as Julianna just isn't fun for most sessions. It has its moments, but they are few and far between.

All in all, I have found "DEATHLOOP" to be very enjoyable. The singleplayer is the most fun that I have had with a game in a long while, with a good storyline and amazing game systems ensuring that you'll have a great time. I can't recommend playing as Julianna, though, as there are far too many problems with the "Protect the Loop" gamemode to be fun for any length of time.

Have a fulfilling day!
