Civ 5 is an ideal game to play online with friends because its online game play works well even if players do not have modern computers. There are many different maps, leaders, modes, wonders, ways of winning, etc. Between 5 and 6, I would definitely pick 5, and I'm not sure that's only because of the nostalgia. That's part of it, but I also don't always care for the stuff the developers added to Civ 6. The global warming aspect of the new game is just too real for me to find enjoyable. Civ 5, while less visually appealing and realistic, is balanced and timeless in a way its successor is not.

I really enjoy this game! It seems simple, but as someone who plays a lot of city builders, I can tell you that many of them fail to provide that balance of creativity, logic, and gradual expansion.

Settlements Rising achieves that balance! A lot of people compare it to Banished, which is fair, but Banished always seemed a little unfinished to me. I'm a big fan of the grid format, and I really love that you have a lot of freedom to organize things the way that looks good to you.

This game offers a good challenge as well. Even after succeeding with a city of 250, I restarted and somehow killed off all of my settlers within three years. This is to say, you really need to pay close attention to what you are doing (and food is more important than anything else).

Don't turn it on 4x speed and then walk away.
