I'm sure it's a very fun game in multiplayer. As a single-player game, it isn't great.

The zombie mode is ok, once you figure out what you are supposed to do. I would say, as a solo game, it's just barely worth the $35.

This game was not meant for me. The major conceit is that you will go through an area you can't escape, "fight" creatures you can't defeat, and eventually reach the end where you can't win. This game is the Kobyashi Maru scenario taken to it's extreme.

HOWEVER--I don't think this is any different than any of the other games in the series, so it is on me that I fell for the hype and expected something different.

So if you liked the other games, you will probably like this one. They do a GREAT job of showing you a sh*thole of a shack in the Louisiana bayou, filled with a bunch of inbred bumpkins. It's creepy, gooey, and just plain gross (particularly for a kid from the desert). I wish I could have enjoyed the gameplay, but I should have saved my money.

I'm not really a fighting game fan, but I've really enjoyed this game so far. It has left me with some questions, though.

1. Why does Superman's costume have armor?
2. How does Supergirl shave her armpits?
3. How does the Batwing hover with no ports or jets on the bottom?

Also, I'm not really sure that sticking electrical cables to your head gives you mental control of machinery. At least, it didn't work with my CD player...

Another game that needs a "meh" option rather than thumbs up/down. It's well made, it runs well, and is immersive. The survival stuff is interesting, but limited because there is no building of tents, structures or any of the things you'd expect to build if you were actually marooned in the snow. Even the ability to fix up a house would be nice. Also, at various times the story mode takes some pretty lame turns that are supposed to seem mystical, but just seem lame. Honestly, much of the story mode plays like a Very Special Two-Part season finale of Northern Exposure, where the doctor finds the mystical in the snow and learns that he can depend on a strength inside himself that he never knew was there.

The real strike against it for me, however, was with the story mode, where you spend 2/3 of the game doing survival stuff (although towards the end of the second episode there are some unnecessarily long bouts of trudging between remote places) then are suddenly shoved into a stealth section with near-instant deaths. This bear cave section has nothing to do with the rest of the game, and the requirements of that section are not well-served by the mechanics of the game.

In all, I'm glad I purchased it (because all the price of purchase went to COVID-19 aid) and enjoyed my time with it up until the end, but I don't imagine I'll be playing again, and would have been just as happy with the purchase if I had never installed it at all.

As online card games go, this one isn't bad. But, ultimately, like every CCG out there, it eventually boils down to P2W. You can win cards to "play" but you won't be winning without phenomenal luck. More likely, you'll pull a ton of crap cards, slowly work your way up, and then....a new set will be released.

This has been true of all CCGs since they began, and the curve for this game is slower than most, but at the end of the day, you're going to have to spend money to be competitive. So if you don't mind losing (a lot), ignore me. If you want to win even a moderate portion of the time, you'll need to spend some money.

Good luck!

Leaving everything else aside...

Rockstar launcher? To hell with that. I bought it on Steam, that's where I expect it to launch. I'm not installing another #@%^$ing launcher.

This is a very late review, but since Steam asked so nicely, I thought I'd write it.

I haven't gotten too far into the game (1.5 hours as of this writing) but I can't hardly drag myself back to it. The game makes no sense. Somehow, you're supposed to be a cop, but you say things to people (suspects/etc) like "I don't think I exist" and people just shrug it off. So basically, you play an idiot who wanders around and says non sequiturs to people while another guy does stuff. You meet a woman in a wheelchair, and one of your immediate options is, "Hey--why don't you tag along with us while we try to solve a murder!" WTAF??

If there were some way to make the main character behave like person rather than a walking mental disorder, I might be able to plow through it. But at the moment it's like an alcoholic homeless man got hold of Jim Carey's Mask and became a police man.

Obviously, I'm in the extreme minority here. Maybe I will get as drunk as the main character and be able to finish the game and will agree that this is the greatest gaming achievement mankind has ever attained. Until then...I'm going to stay in the darkness with the reptilian voice.

This is a great game, and really carries on the story from the previous game without getting seriously bogged down in LotR nonsense. Really, there is very little interaction with the established stories (which is fine by me). Also, you can get this very cheap now and play it for a long time--after 30 hours the game is saying I'm about 20% done! That's value for money!

I recommend this game, but just barely. There isn't nearly enough content for the price, but what content there is is very good. There is a fantastic horror subtext threaded through the whole thing, hidden by bright colors and moths and fruit. It made me think very much of the themes of the card game "Hecatomb". I enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, there's not much replayability. There are apparently 4 more achievements to find by replaying, but since I don't remember anything close to a choice being made, I don't know how I could possibly locate them other than dumb luck (or YouTube). I might manage another 30 minutes of gameplay taking the YouTube route, then it will be uninstalled and probably not reinstalled.

Still, I'm glad I played it. I just wish I had paid 30%-50% of what I actually paid for it.
