Very fun take on a souls-like

Fun game

I received a code for Starfield as part of an AMD product promo, and I'm glad I did. Did I play 100 hours of this game? Yes. Was it fun? At times. But if I had paid full retail for the game I would have been severely disappointed. It has the foundation of decent game systems, but they are poorly or not fully implemented, and while there are lost of plants to explore, there are very few reasons to do so. The inability to fly a ship on the surface is disappointing and the repetitive POIs limit the feeling of exploration you get while playing the game. Some of the quests are well written and fun, but most of them are generic and fairly boring. In the end it's an "okay" game, but if you want space exploration play NMS, if you want a space RPG play Mass Effect or Outer Worlds. It feels like a $20 game. Maybe it will be better in a few years, and follow the NMS trajectory. Overall, Starfield is a fine game, but given the other releases for 2023, it doesn't push any envelopes or make any great innovations to gaming.
