just trust me do NOT look at your "hours played this session" stat in steam's shift+tab after you're done playing.

I just want to know what they were testing this on prior to release. I have a 7800X3D and 4090, and I cannot run the city without stutter to 20-40 FPS. If my computer can't run it, wtf can?

It's really unfortunate that this game has gotten trolled to hell and back, because this is legitimately something pretty special. The criticism about polish is very warranted - audio clipping and dialogue cutoffs REALLY should've been caught in QA and it's bizarre that they got through - but this is otherwise extremely unique and touching, and KO_OP should be incredibly proud. The unapologetically queer depiction of teen life is really well done as well -- for people concerned that this is unrealistic, a) it's a game about dinosaur people LOL, b) gen Z is incredibly queer and it makes sense for a queer protag to have a friend circle of similarly queer people

Okay at best, but it's rarely at its best.

For me, the appeal of Bethesda games is the ability to set out in one direction, start walking, and find a cool plot thread that you can get lost in for hours. In Skyrim for example, you escape Helgen, then you're able to walk anywhere. Whether its the nearby mine, Riverwood, Whiterun, or literally anywhere, you can just start walking in any direction and there will always be content no matter where you go.

Starfield doesn't have this. In Starfield you can't just walk randomly and find content; it's all very pre-determined and that takes a lot of the joy of exploration away. Mandatory fast travel to land on planets and access new areas on them means that the sense of wandering and exploring is gone - imagine if in Skyrim, every fast travel location was already unlocked and shown on your map, and in order to enter a new hold, you had to fast travel to it.

Procedural content generation is at the forefront here as well and is involved in the main quest at several points. There is nothing revolutionary about how they're doing this and it results in extremely bland areas with generic enemies. Spacers are a throwaway enemy NPC and are less believable than Skyrim's bandits.

Companions all suck. Seeing this game's companions after playing Baldur's Gate 3 was like going from a 5 star hotel to a seedy motel. They're more reactive to the world around them compared to NPCs in Fallout 4 or Skyrim, but the bar was already low, and this game barely moves it up at all. In this regard, modded Skyrim does a better job. I wish you had the option to launch Sarah Morgan into space, she's just that uninteresting

Some people are mixed on how this game handles NG+, I thought it was okay. The overarching theme in the main story is actually pretty cool but it isn't executed super well.

Melee feels bad and never gets better. Guns feel okay but later it ends up feeling like you're pouring lead into bullet sponges. Combat overall is pretty boring and I just spammed a sword on Very Hard difficulty for a free win most of the time.

I'm really disappointed with how this turned out and it's lowered my enthusiasm for TES 6 considerably.

Takes the old Resident Evil 1 & 2 gameplay loop, focuses on what made that gameplay great, and trims the fat (bad controls, stupid door animations, etc) while adding its own surreal and haunting charm. The result is absolutely amazing. I also don't even know if they're space lesbians for sure yet but they forever will be so in my heart regardless of the actual answer.

Absolutely fantastic.
