Worth full price, especially as they release free DLC, and more patches to fix the base game.

Just finished my first of I'm sure many playthroughs. I wanted to wait until I was finished with the game at least once and to take a day to think before I wrote the review on this game, and it comes down to two main points, the piss poor launch, and the amazing everything else.

First the fact that is is probably the best game of the past 6 years despite the mess of a launch. narratively cohesive, beautiful writing, great choice in voice acting, awesome art direction, and just a beautiful game (when it runs properly).

The launch was unacceptably bad, no getting around that. I started playing two hours after the launch and up until now, its only getting better. There's been two patches, both of which helped performance and stability immensely. I was fortunate enough to be able to out-perform most of the bugginess of the game, only needing to save/reload a few times an hour. It's to the point now where I do the same about once an hour for the sake of insurance.

Worth buying into VR for this game alone. Even if you sell the headset afterwards. Even if you never touch VR again. Even if you end up hating it. There is not a better experience I can Imagine giving yourself for less than 1000 dollars.

This game is proof that with the right budget, (And tech integration) that a VR game is as good and often better than a traditional AAA game. VR is going to only grow as time goes on and this game will always be remembered as the gold standard of what the medium can achieve, just like HL1 and HL2 were for shooters when they were released.

Picross is a fun type of puzzle that is seriously addictive. If you've never tried it before, definitely do. Every puzzle in the base game and steam workshop CAN BE SOLVED. The game will not let you upload an unsolvable puzzle or puzzle that has more than one solution.

It took 66 hours to do it, but I did inevitably completed every achievement in this game. This was also my first and only Picross game I've completed, so the comments about it just being a bunch of recycled puzzles from other games mean nothing to me. I also cannot confirm if that's true or not. considering how prevalent the complaint is I'm gonna guess its true though.

Towards the end of those 2k puzzles for the last achievement I was solving 5x5 puzzles faster than I could click the tiles to complete it. You get very good and very fast at the basics of solving puzzles and there are more complex solutions on the larger puzzles that I cannot explain properly without a visual example. (A single 5 long strip in a row can be found by using double digit variable from every column in the puzzle by ruling out where it cant go)

While there is alot of specific design decisions that are on peoples nerves, like a lack of hands, or no human targets, the game is amazing. The developer is active on social media, as well as on the game's subreddit.

The environments of the game that have AI are stable and run very well, within reason. There is a huge number of different firearms, explosives, melee weapons, and some other fun toys. The sheer amount of consistent quality across these items is astounding.

As a sandbox to play in, the game is totally worth it. Most if not all the negatives are excusable, I cant recommend enough.

Crazy hard puzzles. You never feel like the game cheated you, you just feel dumb.

This game is a perfect example of what a rouge-like can accomplish at peak design.

The gameplay loop is an arcadeish isometric twin stick shooter (Not exactly twin stick, you still have to push a fire button). The loop is 5* floors with new enemy tiers per floor as you progress. 4** playable characters, and a variety of guns and items chosen at random from separate tier pools. You start with a number of these items already, and as you earn credits from your gameplay loop you unlock more.

There is heavy firearm themes throughout the game and story that reference both history and pop culture. This leads to alot of times where you'll notice and recognize jokes or references to obscure media during the time you'll spend in the game.

The one thing I would say against this game is that it is a ROUGE-LIKE and also a BULLET HELL, you will die so so so many times before you feel you're good at the game. It personally took me almost 20 hours to get past even the first boss, as I have never played a bullet hell before. I loved the game and everything it had to offer, so I endured, but if you're even a little hesitant about it wait until it goes on sale. Looking at gameplay or a livestream or two wont hurt but it can expose you to some major spoilers before you even have the opportunity to find them yourself.

This game has grown into one of the best examples of depth over scope in games. It has literally hundreds of interconnected systems that build on each other to generate exponential depth in game play while keeping the game itself scaled down to an entirely reasonable and understandable slice of the larger world you're playing in. With a huge modding community there is effectively endless content to play with on top of an already expansive and robust base game and DLC. This game puts many, many, colony builders to shame.

It's a good game, if you can get past the common breaches of past lore... and broken world... and all the gray landscapes... and a load of other ♥♥♥♥....
If you have access to mods, and can get past the FACT it shouldn't be a Fallout game than you can totally have loads of fun with this.
Get it on sale.

While its alot better than what it used to be, its still no better than an early flash game.
