An amazing ride unlike anything else, an amazing story and something to inspire you.
There's nothing like this series, and this is only the start of it

Would get an inbetween rating if I could, but I'm tending more to negative.

It's a beautifully visual game, filled with battle mechanics and an eery world to explore.

But it becomes a drag too soon too fast, there's over 9000 things happening all at once during battles, with one enemy more annoying than the other, and I'm exploring hoping I'm not going to get dragged into one. I really enjoyed the few boss battles I went through though, and I wish this kind of action would be everywhere instead. Hell, I was even counting the battles to know when I'd get 'rid' of them.

On one hand I find it sad that I stopped in chapter 5 due to this because I am interested in the story. But I choose not to subject myself to this combat anymore. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea

I played until reaching "Deadwatch" and there, again, getting confronted with the fact I didn't "power creep" enough.

Something I really dislike about these kind of games is grinding, when it's not something you necessarily expect. If I clear out all sidequests, all monsters on the map of my level range, and all monsters and siderooms in all dungeons, I should be leveled enough that I can match a dungeon on an equal level, with perhaps making higher difficulties only achievable to those who want to put the time and effort in. I can't agree with the 'choice' that after you've done a dungeon, you immediately have to do it again on a higher difficulty to be adequately leveled enough to continue with the next step.

That plus a dungeon exploring that becomes more important the longer you continue, but always met with performance issues, and upgrades for characters that differ greatly in difficulty in how to achieve it, makes it just not fun to continue anymore. Although versus the point above, it's something you can easely power through

So no, the game was enjoyable but that design choice made the game not for me. And if you don't like that either, not for you.

Fun little game, decent puzzles and platformer. Some parts are a bit finnicky but once you pass those, it's really good

I finished the game but the jump in first part of level 28, the precision necessary for level 27 and the fact that you should know to jump the motorcycle, when the same model always tried to kill you before, is gimmicky and annoying at best, pure ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at worst

Beautiful game

Stanley just broke me, was very tempted to just put this aside after his last voyage. Glad I didn't, what a ride

You NEED the unofficial patch to be able to play this.

But do try it out. It is really intense for a game from that time. And that's only after 1 playthough, having seen only a portion of the content.

Looking forward to the second

Solid deckbuilder, simple but fun world and mechanics that are not too complicated once the link is made (unless you overcomplicate things for yourself)

The first hour or so was a drag and I couldn't believe the positive reviews. I picked a greatsword which made my attack slow & clunky (not knowing there was a weapon system in this game, focusing pure on STR stats), movement without skills was slow, jump was low, ...

But the game was built for that, and that was OK. After that hour, you evolve more and more to a better and better experience, eventually becoming as smooth as other metroidvanias (except the usual dreaded underwater levels). It had its moments of frustration, but the game in general turned out very fine.

7/10, do recommend but you have to push through that first hour or so
