I'm a huge fan of naval and ship combat games - this one is fantastic for where it's at. The fact alone that it shipped in early access with a mission editor is a massive win in my book.

It's got the beginnings of Command Modern Operations with a full 3D viewer - so I am fully aligned with the large price tag as there is a lot to handle here.

I’ve already watched about a dozen hours of Stealth17 and others play it before buying - so my 1.5 hours shouldn’t seem too puny or uneducated of a review.

As it's in an Alpha state, I fully understand some bugs are there and they are already getting actively squashed.

Most people's issues with AI pathfinding are user error (I learned the hard way that I was not waypointing correctly)

The closest games I can relate it to are: Cold Waters, C:MO, War on the Sea, and Nebulous Fleet Command. I can add Sea Power to this wonderful lineup as I’m enjoying it a ton already.

I really wanted this to be good. I think I barely got my money's worth.

Pros:
-Great combat
-Great visuals
-Zero G fighting is fun

Cons:
-Space combat a little lackluster
-Ship customization feels a bit meaningless
-Ship crews and Outpost crews are worthless (I wanted to build Fallout 4 settlements in space, as In think most people did. All it is is a resource extractor.)
-Procedural generation has given me the same exact landing areas with the same exact solar arrays, resource silos, and annoyingly the same 3-5 outposts on repeat over and over.
-Very PG stories and choices. You can't be a bad guy, and even the bad guys aren't awful. No equivalent bad groups to join like Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Institute, BoS, etc. (I know, different game, but there was a variety of bad groups to join in other Bethesda games).
-So big yet so small. (Spoilers). For the Terrormorph questline as an example, you are to go and find a few people as well as hunt down a secret thingy from a bad group that got it. Because of the scale of the universe, I was expecting to have to travel across the planet (quest-giver said that they've been here in the area for years so you expect the unknown people to be very far away). No. The missing person was like 100 yards from their base, and the enemy base that was impossible to find was maybe 100-200 yards away from their base and in visual range. Wtf. Why build a massive planet when all the quests are so close? Same happens for many other quests.
-Hidden gems are too sparse and the universe is too big for them to be hidden. After landing on hundreds of planets, it gets very boring very fast. You've seen the same 5 Spacer or pirate bases and cleared them too many times. But then you can find a reference to a cool thing that's not procedural, but it takes too much exploring of repetitive nonsense to be able to find those, it's not enjoyable.

Overall I would say wait for when mods come out. I know that will bring me back with the inevitable Halo and Star Wars mods. But the Base content has capped me out. I hate to give it a negative review, but I really did expect more.

Once you learn what you need to do, it's decent. I was picturing more survival meets Tarkov style where you can land where you want, clear the area, grab what you need, then pull out on your own.

It's a very tame game, and you can't land wherever you want, severely limiting my enjoyment. There are only a handful of areas you can land on, and limited amount of content in terms of gear, upgrades, food, etc.

Might return in a couple years to see how it's doing, (looks great and I do want it to get better). Will probably refund at this point.

Loved checkpoint in Arma 3 for years and years... This is the epitome of that greatness in one focused game.

Imagine Sci Fi meets WWII Tarkov but you don't feel like you've been kicked in the balls every time and the game actually loads in a normal amount of time. Seems much better optimized than Tarkov. Played several dozen raids and haven't met anyone hacking, so complaints about that are likely from people that aren't great at milsim looter shooters. 10/10 am addicted.

Absolutely fantastic tactical spaceship sim. Very similar to the feel of HALO, Ender's Game, and the Expanse in terms of ship style and strategy. It's 3D map makes you think way out of the box (literally) and it's constantly being updated by an amazing dev.

You should get it now.

Already loving the game after only a bit. MAJOR improvement in optimization from the first game, it blows my mind. The volumetric blood is awesome as well. If you want to spend hours of your day seeing hundreds of thousands (probs millions I haven't pushed that limit yet) go at it, highly recommend. Just get it.

I have just barely discovered this game and it's already WAY better than anything similar I've played. I know 5 hours may not seem like a lot but when you consider I work two jobs and have a toddler and wife to keep happy, that's a lot in the two days since I've bought it. All my free time has been going into this game and I want to play it all the time, it's so fun and casually addicting! I can't recommend it enough! BUY IT!

Fantastic game, easy to learn, fun to grind, able to play PVE or PVP, with friends or without friends, and doesn't get boring. Highly recommended, played both betas and already loving the main game. Ignore the people complaining about queue times, they are too stubborn to try other servers with less people.

Has varying levels of sim for different players. I play it like Rimworld management style, but you can also play it Silent Hunter style being more hands on. Absolutely phenomenal submarine game. Not quite as realistic or in depth as Silent Hunter series, but it does offer more crew management and overall sub management than those games. Definite 8/10 can't stop playing right now.
