A dull, predictable platformer, 140 has gameplay that rarely extends beyond jumping on moving platforms or avoiding slow-blinking deathtraps. None of the challenges were at all satisfying to complete.

Super Meat Boy-style finesse is rarely required--just basic timing and a LOT of waiting. Many of the levels are designed to make gracefully darting through them impossible: for every second you actually spend moving or jumping, you'll spend a second waiting for a platform to materialize or move or deactivate, because it wasn't set correctly when you reached it. With such bite-size levels and challenges, these constant five-second mandatory pauses become grating, and clash with the music, which has a tempo and rhythm that encourage a sense of constant motion.

As for the art style? Eh, it's inoffensive, not great. It's going for a sort of pseudo-De Stijl look: each level contains lots of blocks of two arbitrary colors, with slightly different values for different level assets. The music might be tense with warm colors, or softer with cool colors, but that's the extent of the game's tonal consistency: the level mood jumps around from somber to exciting to chill with no real rhyme or reason. What is this trying to make me feel?

Well, I certainly felt bored.
