I bought this at launch in 2016 and refunded it (on PS4). Now, after returning to it this year and having put 150+ hours into it at the time of my review, I can safely say that this is one of my favorite games, ever. There has been no shortage of things to do, places to explore, ships to hunt, crops to farm, pirates to blow up, or pretty much anything else you can think of doing.

I've spent time building an aquatic base with a friend. I've spent hours fishing while playing on my Steam Deck and watching sports in the background. I've spent hours exploring the harshest environments on the most hostile planets while struggling to keep my hazard protection active. I spent a few hours min/maxing my exosuit and multi-tool just because I can. It's totally not necessary, as the game isn't hard, but I did it anyways because the game lets you. I've spent over 10 hours building a city on my personal freighter and I still love it every time I step out onto the deck.

No Man's Sky in 2024 is absolutely worth it, especially given the fact that every single update has been FREE. You pay for the game once, and that's it, you get everything. At this point my confidence in Hello Games is so high that I'll be buying Light No Fire on day one, even if it underwhelms, because I know they'll stick with it, and they deserve way more of my money than the $20 I spent on this game.
