Starfield isn't good, and it isn't bad. It's just...boring, which might be worse than being bad. Some bad games are so bad that they're still entertaining. Starfield isn't entertaining. It feels sanitized. Nothing you do has any real impact. The locations are too small to be believable. Neon, which is supposed to be dirty, gritty and cyberpunk, is still PG-13 at worst. Comparing it to Night City exposed just how sanitized it is. The worse aspect of the game HAS to be the temples, of which you need to do nearly a dozen just to advance the main quest. It's an empty room, which you float around for a minute or so, then you fight one enemy (the same enemy every time, no less). It's the laziest, most repetitive game design I've seen since Anthem.

The POIs on the procedurally generated planets are straight up copied and pasted. The same enemies spawn in the same spots. The coffee mugs will be in the same spot. The landmines will be planted in the same spot. The caves and dungeons in Skyrim really put the POIs in this game to shame.

Maybe BGS can turn this around with future updates. I hope so, I really do, because I've never tried to hard to like a game before. As it stands now, it's just plain boring, which is the worst thing a BGS game can be.
