Holy crap! I didn't know that I needed this in my life! If you like flying airplanes, and you have at least a passing interest in building them, this is pretty freaking awesome!
I'm only 4 hours in, and I can see playing this in waves rather than for long, extended times. But I'm really enjoying it so far.

There's a lot to like here, but I absolutely detest the pay to win features that continue to be added to the game. Even the, "fun events," now almost require you to spend $20 to get the rewards. Also, why am I paying $20 for a couple of pieces of gear? There are full games on Steam with more content for less than $20.

As I understand it, when Lava started this game, he was against all of the above. Now, he's right there with all of the rest of them. Very sad. Don't bother with this game.

When this game first came out, I really didn't like where it was at. But something happened here that I don't think that I've ever seen before. The developers released updates to the game on a weekly basis... And they just kept at it. As of this writing, there have been 156 updates to the game, including major updates adding completely new features.

One of the patches that I greatly appreciate is the ability to host dedicated servers. What's more, they allowed dedicated servers the ability to have persistent deployments rather than the constant back and forth that the game was originally designed for.

I just nominated this game for the Labor of Love Steam award. This puts this game in the same category as Terraria and No Man's Sky. I definitely recommend this one.

Great cooperative action based RPG. There are so few games out there that have this type of gameplay that it's hard to find something similar that scratches this itch. It's a good thing that they're still regularly releasing content updates.

Of the tracks in the 80's mix tape Side 1, this is really the only one that I enjoyed, kinda. It has a good bit of that feel that drew me into Synth Riders in the first place. I very much feel like the quality of the tracks in this pack have continued to give way to the score chaser crowd that's looking for new ways to flail their arms about, like the other rhythm games out there. I want to be able to get into a rhythm and enjoy the music, not flail about like an inflatable waving arms man.

This is a gem of a game!
It's a starship simulator of sorts. I'd put it in the same realm as Pulsar: Lost Colony. You could even compare it to Artemis Bridge Simulator to some degree.
It can be a difficult game. You definitely don't want to play alone. Also, be sure to check out the steam guides and discussions for helpful little tidbits. There's a lot going on here, and it's fantastic.
Progression is also pretty neat, but I feel like there's some tweaks that they could do to make it a bit better. As it stands, you'll regularly be making progress towards either meaningful effects or cosmetic items.
At this point, my only complaint is how much the new Incursion feature can draw out the time investment per mission. My group has encountered one just about every time that we've run missions lately.

Great little bullet heaven/survivors game.
Progression is consistent and varied.
Gameplay is fun.
Multiplayer is a bonus.
The developer continues to release solid updates.
Good for having a nice, chill session as well.
The price is right. Go get it!

This is a bad vampire survival/bullet heaven game with a DRG skin and audio slapped on top of it. If you want to play DRG, play DRG. If you want to play a good VS/BH game, play Vampire Survivors or Greedland. If you want to support the devs with a cheap purchase, go for it. But be honest about this one, it is not great.

Classes:
I want to express that classes don't feel anything like DRG. Classes don't have unique abilities; There are no grappling hooks, platforms, or zip lines.
The classes are generic with different stats for different things. (walk speed, digging speed, health)
From the start, you only have access to the Scout class. You have to unlock the others through gameplay.
The classes do get different weapons which you unlock by leveling up each class.

Weapons:
The weapons are generally very weak, and considering the mobs get stronger as you play, the upgrades for the guns really don't feel very good at all.

You have no actual control over your weapons, (with one exception) and they take a significant amount of time to reload. What's more, they don't do very much damage on their own, and most of the "strategies," rely HEAVILY on using the exploding type enemies to kill the surrounding enemies.

The weapons in this game require two different unlock, "gates."

The first is to level up the class. As you progress class levels, you unlock additional weapons.

The second unlock comes from leveling up individual weapons to level 12 in a run. Once you get them to level 12 in a run, you will be eligible to add overclocks in future runs at levels 6, 12, and 18. But the weapon is unaffected in the current run, and weapon level progress does not carry between runs.. This leads to gameplay where players focus on unlocking overclocks and then just fail the mission intentionally.

Gameplay:
The primary mechanic of the game is a timer bar at the top of the screen. You typically get one, "resupply," which provides a very insignificant buff, and you get 3+ swarms which you must run or hide from. There's a boss fight at the end of each level, and then you have 30 seconds to find the drop pod or lose the level. The frustrating thing is how quickly the timer goes. You rarely have time to stop to explore or loot.

Because of the timer, you have to choose how you want to play every run. You can either go for loot/progression, or you can go for success. If you go for progression, this is considered, "greedy," and it diminishes your ability to actually complete levels.

Hazard level 1 feels a lot like hazard level 4 or 5 in DRG. In the forums, folks say that hazards levels 2 and 3 get, "easier," which kind of goes against expectations set from DRG.

As of today, they patched the game to make enemies do less damage in Hazard level 1. This is a band-aid at best. You're still having to choose between progression or success, even at the lowest difficulty. Even with meta progression, this remains true.

I will again restate that I don't feel that this is a good vampire survivor or bullet heaven game. There are far better games in the genre. It also doesn't feel at all like a DRG game. It just has a DRG skin and sounds. I expected a LOT better from the people who made DRG.

The game is Early Access, so if they update it and make it better, I'll see about updating my review.

Fantastic combination of looter/horror with some great social/communication innovations. It looks like there's a nice little modding community forming up over at Thunderstore.io.

I'm seeing a lot of bad reviews with really low play times. (less than an hour)
Several of those reviews point out that you lose all progress between missions. That's simply not true. This is a roguelite. There's both in-mission progression that only lasts through the current mission, and there's permanent progression that carries over between missions.

The in-level progression consists of a variety of pickups/buffs that improve your weapons, skills, and grant special passive effects. The pickups have 4 tiers of quality, but you will need to improve your permanent progression in order to get the higher tier upgrades.

As stated, the permanent progression increases your chances of finding higher tier upgrades during a mission. Additionally, you can improve your damage, your resistances, your speed, etc. You can also unlock cosmetic stuff in the permanent progression system like new outfits, emotes, and voice lines for the characters.

There are currently 9 missions, but each mission has several levels of difficulty. (some of which need to be unlocked) The missions are procedurally generated. It seems that the first 3 missions are a bit lacking in variety, but the other 6 seem to be way better. This might change on harder difficulties. (I haven't made enough progression to do those yet)

Though it seems somewhat weird, the characters can mix things up by equipping a small variety of weapon sets. (rogues can equip spell books, mages can equip melee weapons) However, you can only take two sets with you per mission. You can also upgrade these weapon sets with permanent progression.

Though there are complaints that the devs didn't listen to anything during EA, they did make a few significant changes that were especially helpful. I think that they really dropped the ball on tutorials, but if you've played similar games (Gunfire Reborn, RoboQuest) it shouldn't take you long to pick up.

There's also complaints of a lack of content. There are only 9 levels and 4 heroes at the moment, but it sounds like the devs plan to continue adding to the game over time.

No one that I've played with has had any performance complaints. No crashes. No in-game glitches that have interrupted play. There is a weird visual glitch for some folks that looks like there's a dirt overlay on the screen. A workaround is to set your graphics settings to the LOW profile, (this disables the overlay) then drag the quality sliders where you want them. (devs have stated that they are working on a fix for this as of this review)

I recommend the game, but I'm a bit hesitant at the $30 price tag. I'd absolutely buy it again at $30, but I feel that some folks might not feel that there's enough content to be worth it at that price. The Humble Bundle Store currently has a deal for 50% off of a 4 pack, which comes out to $15 a person. At that price, I 100% recommend this game.
