Started development in 2006. Plays like it was made in 2006.

Linear dialog leaves little room for success unless you min/max the right skills.

Started as a lockpicking thief, every door was locked, no options to open. Dex was highest stat... every dex attempt failed. Rolls aren't random, so there's no chance for luck just pre-determined scripts. There's really nothing to interact with in the environment. Had a few kinda-creative NPC encounters, but it's more like a choose-your-own-adventure than an RPG. Instead of being rewarded for what you build, you're penalized for what you don't.

Ultimately, not worth 26.99... or even 6.99... or even free. I have too many other games I could be spending time on that are much more fun and engaging.

I'll start by saying this game is good and it deserves recommendation, but only for those who are into this kind of game.
Disclaimer: I attribute my thoughts in this review to being spoiled by lots of games.

It's a beautiful atmosphere with 'ok' textures and acceptable presentation. The narrative is pretty good and the mystery behind the story is just the right amount. Even though the particle effects and objects to interact with feel a bit gaudy (arcade-like) or out-of-place, the music is great and the handling of certain aspects (the rewind concept and the vocals as you try to surpass a map boundary) is both unique and refreshing.

However, it's a puzzle game. Let me just say, I loved Portal and Portal 2.
But the puzzles in Talos Principle feel more like a barrier than part of the game.

So I fetch a bunch of tetris pieces (holding down shift through almost all the puzzles so I run faster because they're really simple) and I complete all the pieces and I walk through a portal...... and I'm in a hallway of locked doors.

Every time you progress, you end up with one more barrier ahead of you. There are islands in the distance, beautiful sunsets and icy vistas... but I always have to turn around and walk toward the corroded maze of brick walls and grates to do another chore. And another chore and another. The pieces feel like work and not fun, to me. I want so badly to immerse myself in story and dive deep into the digital library terminals scattered throughout the map... but the gameplay part is dirt simple enough where I'm not enjoying it.

The philosophical part of the game of "what makes you human" is not original but I liked that it was taken from a different perspective. It made me think for a bit, but I'm wondering if it's going to be drawn out and be the theme for the whole game. I forsee it getting tired and old halfway through.

I'll probably give it another go after a break, and I'm giving it a thumbs up because I think it's well-done, but it's something you really need to be in the mood for.

Amazing game improvements (this is coming from an owner of the PS4 and PS3 versions of GTAV - yes, both).

The only cons are:
- No HOTAS support (I really want to be able to map my flight controls for air combat).
- Long loading times in Multiplayer (always the case with GTA Online though)
- A few minor server instance bugs (really difficult with 2 friends on same server getting into the same missions)
- Can't transfer singleplayer saves to PC, even if you download from PS4 and dump them into the savegame folder. Oh well.

The biggest improvement is the insane framerate. I'm only running a several-year-old GTX 680 nVidia card and I've maxed out all settings and post-processing effects (except textures due to mem limits) and it runs at 60fps easy. Smoother than any game I've ever played. Period.

I also will comment how great it is to play first-person with a mouse and keyboard on GTA for the first time.

Started game in launcher. 100% crash whenever I tried to edit graphics. Looks like UI was made in 2005.

Really tired of these strategy games turning up lackluster. Unintuitive UI and controls. Spent 10 minutes trying to find out how to go to the next turn. Game doesn't like one of my input devices; not sure which.

I'd like to enjoy the game, but I think it'll have to wait a few months.

Such a simple concept but damn it's addicting and fun.

The greatest feature about it is there's no jerking you around. You start the game... you play... the match takes about 1 minute to finish. You pick the next map. You play. etc.

No useless cutscenes. No waiting in queues. No drama.

It's the kind of game that you can play 1/2 hr before you need to go to bed and still get 20+ games in. It's fun to lose. Don't be afraid to get your ass kicked the first week you play. Eventually you get some nail-biting close-call wins that truly feel like an acomplishment.

Recommended with friends and with a controller.

I love the character creation skills; I love the concept; I love rpgs. This game has (had?) so much potential. Much like a modern apocalyptic version of Arcanum (that great isometric steampunk game from Sierra).

Unfortunately, the quests and storyline are absolutely, beyond description-justice, terrible. It's like one long errand.

There's a part of the early game where you contract a life-threatening disease (and there's a timer) and you think "omg I don't care about anything right now except curing my characters... hurry up and cure my characters so I can go back to enjoying the game". Then you find out that it's like a 30-part quest just to get the cure. It's not fun. I flew past all the areas because of that damn plague timer. I would describe the experience like being stuck in a mosh pit and you have diarrhea... and you see the restroom way off in the distance... but there are 12 locked grates, poison gas, 15 diaglog-ridden side-quests between it and you, and once you reach it you realize it's just a sign and the bathrooms are out of order, so you have to go back the way you came, behind the building, and crap near the dumpsters.

I digress.

Seriously though, I had a blast with the first quest. It seems like it would be so much fun if it were a tactical combat rpg like it leads you to think... not like the errand-running puzzle fest where every corridor is blocked off and leads to a another 1hr side quest which has 2 locked doors which requires 2 more side quests. It's the kind of puzzle maze nonsense that would make Hansel and Gretel blush.

Quests go like this: you need X. To do X you need to go on the other side of the map. Oh, it's blocked. Ok, 3 fetch quests to unblock this. Great. Oh, you failed your computer check? Gotta go around. Oh but in order to go around you need to fix this broken generator. Ah, right, you'll need John from Across-The-Map again to give you the part you need to fix it. John needs you to find his missing heirloom though first before he can trust you. *long hours of clicking and walking*. Ok, here's the item, got the part, walk across the map, fix the generator, got one of the 3 fetch-quest items. Return the part. Go to 2nd fetch quest. ♥♥♥♥, path is blocked. Need 2 more quests to unlock the door...

Meanwhile, the timer is ticking down and your plague-ridden party is slowly dying. Ugh.

I have to say this is one of the most polished mini-sandbox-builder games I've ever played. In fact, the interface so far beats most finished games on the market.

It's like Kerbal Space Program meets Garry's Mod but on a smaller scale.
The physics are superb and the content this early in the game is very well put-together.

All the work was done to make the mechanics feel right.
This is what early access games should be all about.

Beautiful landscape, smoothed mouse, decent audio.

That's about it. Everything else about this game feels clunky.

Don't give me the "this is just an alpha game" nonsense, this clunkiness is part of the core engine. It'll be just as clunky on release.

The loot system is really lacking. You can't search any cupboards or lockers or fridges. Everything is laying on the ground equally spaced out. 99% of the time, entire towns will be empty. Not one single thing.

Aside from that, the real problem is: zombies. It's not that they're tired and old and overdone, it's that they're just done wrong. They run at you, clip through walls, have horrible animations, and spawn right behind you sometimes. They kind of ruined the game for me.

It was actually more fun to run into (and from) other players. I swear these kinds of games would be better if they just took out the monsters and made it a survival game... anyway... I digress.

The whole world seems empty. The interface is so...so....so...soo painful. You cant drop things on the ground if a container is open, you cant even read what items are if your inventory is full, you cant swap out items unless you drop them first, items equipped in your hands feel slow and cumbersome. Melee weapons are pretty much useless; it feels like you're trying to swing your arms through a pile of sand.

I don't even care that the first 5 items I found were different types of caps, I just want a usable interface, improved looting system, and better combat mechanics. They got the map and graphics right, but there's nothing else good about it.

I'm not a lumberjack, nor do I enjoy sims like Farming Simulator and the like.

I just can't explain it. There's something really entertaining about procedurally adaptive terrain. Realism simulator!

I've been a fan of Tropico for a while and can say the improvements to the UI, addition of eras, and a few extra gameplay elements added some polish going from Tropico 4 to 5.

That said, it basically feels like an expansion to Tropico 4 with a slightly improved UI. The character creation aspect feels very "alpha" to me. There are EXTREMELY limited choices. Basically, one outfit per "era" and more mustache styles than hair styles, I believe.

Solid singleplayer gameplay (haven't tried multiplayer) with a fun new trading aspect. Campaign mode keeps it fresh enough, I suppose. I'm curious how it'll play out with only 2 game maps (from what I've seen).

All around decent. Not sure if you should pay full price for it if you already own Tropico 4, but worthy of trying it if you like these styles of "town-building" games. The pre-order content was what pushed me over the fence on it.
