Cute Horror done exceptionally well

MiSide is one of those games that you go into with low expectations and are completely blown away with. The game is incredibly polished and executed so well that it puts most AAA games to absolute shame. I'm not entirely sure if this is correct but I've heard that this game was made with a dev team of 2 people. 2 people. It's unfathomable how exceptionally well the game is for a dev team of 2 people. Caps off to the incredible work that they managed to accomplish. I won't be spoiling anything major as I would suggest, no, highly recommend buying and playing for yourself. The simple short summary of the game is that you are sucked into a tamagotchi like game and quickly you realize things aren't as they seem. This is indeed a horror game through and through. The flip from cute to horrifying is done really well. Play the game and experience it for yourself. I cannot recommend this game enough.

In rough shape

There are many issues with this re-master/re-release of clock tower. The game slows to a agonizing crawl in certain areas. There is ZERO audio settings which is completely baffling for a remaster in 2024. You have to turn the game down in the audio mixer of windows itself. There is also a VERY intrusive pop up in game when you unlock something in the gallery. It completely blocks the whole screen. They added frame borders which is nice and all. Kinda like the MGS remaster/re-release. There's also a crt filter which is always welcome but that's about it. I cannot recommend this until some of the most glaring issues are patched/fixed. Get it on sale or after its patched.

Incredible from start to end

Probably one of my favorite games I played in 2024. To even begin with describing the premise of the game would ultimately give away the game so I'm not gonna go into too much detail. The game says right up front "Slay the princess". That simple premise is taken to absolute incredible detail and depth. It's your typical Stanley parable kind of game. You make choices like a text adventure game and those choices, good or bad, are well thought out and expanded on in great detail. I really don't want to describe too much more than that. The writing is incredible, the art is fantastic, and the voice acting is top notch. Buy the game and experience it for yourself. I would hate to spoil even an ounce of this game.

Star-fun

Spoiler free!

Almost 200 hours at current writing of this review and I can safely say that Starfield has thoroughly captivated my attention. I am totally enraptured by the universe they have crafted. The lore and stories that I have experienced is what made me love their fallout and elder scrolls games so much over the years and make me revisit them from time to time. There is so much to experience in Starfield and I feel like there is still so much I have yet to see.

The game looks amazing even on my low end rig. The performance for me is more than what I expected for how old my hardware is. I can't really speak on the optimization side but so far the game runs adequately for me. It does stutter from time to time, most noticeably when using the scanner. Other than a few graphical bugs and some quests getting stuck, my gameplay has been pretty smooth for the most part. The gunplay isn't really anything to be wowed about and combat is pretty standard for a Bethesda title with a little extra. Story can be hit or miss in some parts but overall I don't have much to complain about there. There are a few quests that are definitely better than others but that is pretty standard with Bethesda games. I don't expect every mission to be amazing but the ones that stand out are some of my favorites in a Bethesda game.

Starfield has been a blast to play and I can't wait for the DLC, fixes, and plethora of mods that are sure to come out when the tools are available. The game can only get better for the foreseeable future.

Really good concept, but lacking in execution

I decided to give this game a play when it was on free weekend and bought on sale. Had a bit of fun in the beginning but as I kept playing, the progression and "impossible" bases really made me uninterested and unmotivated to play it further.

Meet your maker has a myriad of unfun design and gameplay decisions that really hamper enjoyment. Most apparent and frustrating is the progression system and resource grind. You really have to play a considerable amount of time to get any sizeable upgrades. These upgrades don't really make them worth the considerable time sink in my opinion and I always feel like I could have chosen a better upgrade and regret the one I chose more times than not. The resources are split between 3 different types. I feel that you could just make it one resource to upgrade and it would feel a lot better in my opinion. Having it split between 3 almost certainly makes it so you don't have enough for the one upgrade you really want or play the way you want. If it was one giant resource you could split between raiding and building you could pick what you want to focus on. Its curious that Dead by Daylight does this and meet your maker doesn't, being made by the same developer. If you want to "Main" killer or survivor in Dead by Daylight, you can just dedicate to that and put all your Bloodpoints into the side you want to play. This should be how it is in meet your maker as well. If you just want to raid or build you should be able to focus on that playstyle that you find the most enjoyable and upgrade it accordingly.

The raiding in the game is very fun and the gunplay and movement is nailed perfectly and I can't find any real gripes with it. Mostly all the weapons in the game are satisfying to use and have their purpose ( Demolition cannon debatable). The one "Weapon" that I would consider problematic is the shield. It makes the game way too easy. If you just run through a base with the shield its a cakewalk. The perfect timing mechanic is just a bit too powerful in my opinion and takes minimal effort for maximum reward. The window for a perfect block is also super generous and makes it so you can just shoot the ground with the demolition cannon and block the explosion for free invulnerability on demand. It makes every trap in the game completely useless. The consumables that you get, through crafting them with one of the resources you get, I don't really use much. Grenades are nice but when you can just respawn it really makes it a no brainer pick. Speed boost is ok if you want to "Speedrun" a base with the run and shield method. The barrier is just a bubble of invulnerability that is ok I guess and is handy when you get to one of those "Impossible" bases. Switching out your consumables for what you need when you get to one of those bases doesn't really feel satisfying its just a "ugh" moment, and you will only really switch once you die to it. The whole thing just boils down to "Is the base fair?" or "Is the base fun?" and swap out accordingly.

The traps in the game are also some of the most inconstant and frankly useless I have seen. Some of the traps are good but the vast majority are just wasted building cost and are completely outclassed by others. The base building is decent for what it is but it feels like it could much more. As a big fan of games like "Dungeon keeper" and "Evil genius" The building traps for raiders is a great concept but it doesn't feel satisfying to me in meet your maker. It also is super unmotivating to only get 3 or so raids on your base for all the effort you put into building it. It just feels like wasted resources and time. On another note of base building / raiding. When you raid a base that just boils down to one big room full of traps, it just makes it tedious and unfun. If every base you raided was just one big room with a hundred traps in it, it would get very stale quickly. I don't want to make those bases, but if that is the most optimal way to gather resources, it makes the whole elaborate planning and building pointless. Super demotivating to make bases that you spent a lot of time thinking on and planning when you get one to three raids and 10 kills. Just really makes you think "I could have made a box with lasers and it would have been better".

Was really hoping that Meet your Maker would be a nice refreshing take on the base building / raiding idea, but the issues currently make it not worth your time or money. Some improvements I would personally like is that you should play your own base and beat it like Mario maker to publish it. I know every steam review has pitched that idea so its not a unrequested or small recommendation to implement. Would make the "unfair" bases far a few between and discourage that building style. Some more feedback on your base would be nice as well. Currently you only have 4 options to rate a base and all of them feel useless and or uninformative. Limiting them to only positive responses as well makes it so that all of them have little to no meaning. Some other options like "Trap room" "No effort" "Bad" "lazy" "Rat maze" "Harve killer" would make it feel like when you do get good recommendations it feels like other players appreciated your base and makes it more worthwhile to create bases that are high quality and rewarding. It should also make it so bases that get heavily downvoted would be less featured and wouldn't appear as often. Would disincentive to make those bases as you wouldn't get as many raids or kills or even lose points if you got too many. Would like to see the weapons in the game get a bit more love as well. For instance if you love the bolt lance you should get an option to prestige it and get some crazy upgrades for it kind of like Deep rock Galactic with its overclocks. An example would be that the bolt lancer can bounce off walls and stuff or you can recall the ammo with a magnetic grip. Would make some of the less viable and boring weapons have a great purpose for sticking with it and feel rewarding. As for the consumables it should be that way as well. Like for the grenades if you upgrade it you can throw special grenades that do different things like the grenades in borderlands. I can't think of any crazy trap upgrades at the moment so post some below. These are just a few examples but the possibilities are limitless.

The game has great potential but as of now I cannot recommend it.
