Somehow manages to cram RNG into every possible aspect of its gameplay. It's normal for roguelikes to have RNG force your hand in the builds you go for and the strategies you're allowed on a run, but this game goes completely overboard by having almost every interaction heavily hinge on RNG in some way. The chance you take or avoid damage, hits to kill, rerolls, whether potions heal or damage you, bad enemy placements, etc. etc. run rampant and the extremely limited item selection per reroll means it's never really guaranteed you roll consistent solutions to these problems on a run. It ends up creating a game that feels less like I won or lost by my ability to strategize and adapt to RNG and more like the outcome was up to luck from the start. It gets even worse with the challenge achievements (which you're encouraged to chase for unlocks), many which impose restrictions that gimp your available strategies even further.

This game is only really fun for a while. If there were a mixed option I would pick it here, but the positives outweigh the negatives.

To put it very simply, this game stops being fun as soon as you discover the dominant strategy. Once you settle on the best deck and prioritize the right stats for your class, you can basically steamroll the game without any real thought and mitigate most RNG, making most runs play out the exact same way- distribute the same cards on your map, prioritize the same stats, and take the same traits whenever possible. This strategy (which I won't elaborate on for the sake of your enjoyment) is enough to defeat every boss- I didn't bother letting the game idle long enough to find out how many loops it would last for, too. After this point the only thing left is to grind resources to make future runs even more overpowered to the point you can practically leave the game on idle forever, which isn't exactly the greatest concept of fun.

Before you reach this point, though, the game is pretty fun. It's an addicting loop and it's supported by phenomenal pixel art, good music and an interesting world and story. There's a lot of lore to unlock as well that really fleshes out the world-building. I would say the first few runs are the most fun you'll have in the game because you have the least crutches to lean on and the gameplay is more involved when you haven't optimized your deck and have to make a lot more decisions about what stats and cards you want.

You can probably expect a good 15+ hours of enjoyment out of this game if you're into roguelike deckbuilders, though you shouldn't go in expecting anywhere near the replayability or depth of something like Slay the Spire. For what it is it's a good experience and worth the price, so long as you never look up anything about the game.
