I have to agree with a lot of the other reviewers that the tutorial in this game absolutely sucks and is is virtually non existent, which can make the first hour or so pretty frustrating. But once you start to get a hang of things, the pay off is immense.

If you like cars, and if you like job simulators, then you will LOVE this game. Just stick with it for the first hour, and if you get stuck watch a few YouTube videos. Once you get a hang of the basics, everything starts to fall into place and you'll intuitively known how to approach each new challenge the game throws at you.

As much as I would like to recommend this game as it feels like a lot of work went into it, as a fan of the original ADOM (yes I'm that old), this new version falls short in many ways. The most glaring omission is the lack of an overland map, the game just drops you in a dungeon at the start, which in my mind is a huge misstep as the overland map was one of the best and most unique parts of ADOM.

The dungeons are repetitive and seem to be only partially randomly generated, with the environments being almost completely devoid of details that make you feel like you're in a constantly evolving world. Bar the odd pile of money and decoration pieces which literally add nothing to the game, each level is completely barren and does nothing to motivate the player to explore it.

From the very moment you step foot in your first dungeon in the original, you're faced with a cornucopia of enemies, items, npcs, traps and various other features which instantly make you feel like you're part of a living, breathing world. This version of ADOM is the opposite, it feels sterile, dead and like it was hastily cobbled together. Character creation is also massively disappointing, with only a handful of races and classes available compared to the original.

On a positive note, the graphics, music, art direction and particularly the UI are top notch. Compared to the original, managing your character is a breeze, but sadly it seems the rest of the game has been massively simplified as well, much to its detriment.

If you're an og ADOM fan, I'd stay clear of this as it lacks the depth of the original. On the other hand, if you're new to ADOM and rogue-likes in general, this might be the perfect first step into this brilliant genre of games.

This game seems to have a lot of potential but at the moment I can't really recommend it. My biggest gripe is how unnecessarily complex the crafting is, and in some cases it feels like the game creates busy work for the sake of creating busy work. A perfect example is the need to fuel the creation of almost every single item with coal or wood. I understand that certain crafting stations like the furnace or stove might require fuel, but why am I adding fuel to a carpentry table to craft a stool? This particular mechanic seems tacked on and is annoying, forcing you to endlessly harvest coal or wood to basically get anywhere in the game.

The pacing of the game is also very hectic, so if you're looking for a relaxing time like SDV this ain't it, as the game forces you to juggle and micromanage too many things at once to be a chilled out experience. I've also experienced a few bugs, mainly not being able to access the inventory unless I exit and then re-enter a room, and pieces of furniture in my tavern are just randomly disappearing overnight. But as a huge SDV fan I'll be keeping my eye on how things develop.

Early Access Review
I want to preface this review by saying this game may eventually have some potential, and if you've never played the first one and are looking for a fun VR flight game then you may find this enjoyable. But given I played the first one a lot, and had certain expectations for this game especially after engaging with the devs call for input about it on Reddit, I'm extremely disappointed by what I played last night.

Firstly, this game can hardly be called a sequel. From the moment you load it up it looks and feels identical to the first one, except for a few graphic tweaks. The original game came out in 2017 for MOBILE PHONES, and the sequel, 5 years later and apparently 'built for VR', looks almost identical. The addition of day/night, (some) higher res textures and extra lighting is nice, but the whole game looks like a patched version of Ultrawings. At best, this is Ultrawings 1.5 with extra planes added to it.

Probably the worst aspect of Ultrawings 2 are the environments. They're SO basic and SO boring. The islands are few in number and tiny - you can literally fly over each one in less than a minute or two. What's worse is that they're completely lifeless and static. Remember Pilotwings 64? Remember how that game managed to pack so much interesting scenery and objects into tiny spaces that you'd keep coming back to it again and again to explore? Ultrawings 2 is the exact opposite of that and came out almost a quarter of a century later. Each island is empty except for a few rows of identical buildings (I really do mean identical). The streets are empty expect for the odd car that drives down a road then disappears. The streets, fields, beaches and seaside cliffs are barren of all life and vegetation. Instead of creating lively, varied environments the devs seem to have literally just copy/pasted the same models on each island and called it a day. What's worse is everything looks the same as Ultrawings 1. The whole things reeks of laziness on a completely inexcusable scale. It's like they just copied over big chunks of the first game, tweaked it a bit and called it a day. I was honestly shattered flying around the first island, I had really hoped the sequel would build upon all the great stuff they did in the first one and turn it to 11. Instead we got this half baked garbage that just made me want to go back and play the first one.

Now lets move onto the game play. Given it's meant to be a spiritual successor to Pilotwings, the shift on focus to combat is confusing and really doesn't play well. Dog fighting drones in the Stallion was really tedious, with the plane handling poorly and vision being blocked by the unnecessarily obtrusive cockpit. With environments this poor though, I'm not surprised that combat has become such a big feature as without it players would die of boredom flying over the uninspired landscapes.

Devs, if you're reading this, please do me a favour. Fire up Pilotwings 64 this weekend and reminds yourself what you're trying to pay homage to, because this ain't it chief. Then fire whoever is designing your models and environments and get someone in who knows what they're doing. And invest more than $5 in assets so that players aren't flying over souless wastelands so boring that their only instinct is to plow their vehicles into the ocean for sweet relief from the tedium.

On a more positive note the sound design is excellent. The music is perfect, the voice acting great and small details like reverby echoes when you fly under bridges and through tunnels are a really nice touch.

Shame they didn't put the same level of attention to detail to the things that actually matter.

2/10

For me this is what VR is all about. An incredibly simple idea that allows you to explore your creativity in an engaging and addictive fashion. TrainerVR is easy to learn but draws you in so that time literally melts away, and next thing you know you're taking off your headset and hours have passed. Creating tracks and placing pieces is easy and intuitive to do, but as your track grows an extra layer of strategy is introduced by way of managing multiple trains via switches and stop/go lights.

My only gripe with this game is that the number of objects available is fairly limited, I mean there's enough there to keep you busy for a while but it would be great if devs invested some time and effort into adding more on a regular basis, especially considering some of the objects already included are open source. Or open this game up to the workshop so fans such as myself can add objects. Also the first person mode when riding the trains needs some work, but its usable at least.

Overall I think this is a must own VR experience and a welcome change of pace from the endless selection of shooters coming out...

I've played pretty much every city building game that's come out since the 90s, and Cities XL is the one I keep coming back to most. This game not only looks great but plays well, and although the game mechanics aren't perfect it's still the most fun city builder out there.

As a long time FSX player I was delighted to hear that a new version of this iconic game was in the works. Unfortunately Flight Sim World is a step backwards in every single respect compared to it's forefather, except for the graphics and UI which have been bought up to date (and I must admit look pretty great, particularly the dynamic clouds).

The worst part is the developers don't seem to give a ♥♥♥♥ about their customers AT ALL. The game had barely hit early access and they are already releasing wave after wave of useless and over priced DLC - before they've even bothered finishing the game. They're constantly adding additions that nobody is asking for, while soundly ignoring all the features customers have been begging for since day one. Bugs are also ignoed in a race to shoehorn in as many superficial (but easily programmed) features that nobody asked for.

All in all this now feels like a vanity project for a team of guys who are only interested in their own narrow definition of what an avionics simulator should be, while arrogantly trashing the two decade legacy laid down by its spiritual predecessor.

Maybe once they add commercial and private jets (if they ever do - people have been begging them for this since release date and they have ignored every single question regarding this I've seen posted on their fb page) it could possibly be worth a look, but as it stands if you're an FSX fan stick to that as FSW will only bring disappointment like it has to me and countless other flight sim fans.

A very chilled out game with beautiful graphics, excellent music and distinctive art style that I personally love. I've played it on and off since it's release as even the very early versions were highly enjoyable (if very very rough). With the Atlas Rises update the game has finally 'come out of Alpha' and is starting to become what the developers had intially promised it would be. If you haven't played it since it came out - give it another chance, you may be pleasantly surprised. If you've never played it before, and aren't soured by the uninformed negative opinions you've read about it, then I highly, highly recommend this game.
