I keep coming back to this game. It has it's bugs, and there are a few things I think should be changed (the amount of building blocks one person can have in the world {and many others}), but it truly is the best game of its kind.

They are similar games, in style, but having played both, Conan is the better of the two. There really isn't a feeling like pulling off a successful raid in Conan. It is a simple game at face value, but there is a lot of story elements, world bosses, and super interesting places to explore on the map. There are recipes and items you don't get til' level 60, but with some know-how, and wit you can get end game items as a fresh spawn.

My favorite thing to do is to spawn in at level 1 and run around decaying, and sneaking into people's bases until I can afford to build a place of my own.

Ark has dabbled in all of this, but, in my opinion Conan just implements it better. I'm not really a fan in the change that Ark takes at end game; it becomes a completely different game.
