not as peak as the main series due to not being developed by rocksteady

origins literally only exists to satiate arkham fans while waiting for arkham knight to finish, and it kind of shows. in my experience of going through the entire franchise for the first time chronologically in 2025, deciding to play origins instead of just skipping to knight right after city is definitely a choice i'd only recommend if you really enjoy the gameplay loop that's been refined up until city.

if not, skip to knight.

extremely late to this game but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this is peak

given the current state of triple a gaming, discovering this gem now brought me back to the simple joys of just enjoying a complete hand-crafted video game out the box, no pseudo-sequel-sized DLCs or live-service aspects. in the 15 hours it took me to 100% this game, i can confidently say i enjoyed every minute of it.

highly-recommended, would even consider it a must play

After picking up Doom Eternal during the last summer sale and slightly obsessing over it (working on Master Level Ultra-Nightmare runs at the time of writing this), I've fallen into a Doom rabbit hole and have been going through a retrospective of the entire franchise.

Despite considering FPS as my favorite genre of video games, I've never actually played this. Now that I have, everything makes sense now. Not just with Doom as a franchise and how much more impressive the Hugo Martin era is now that I understand the source material, but how this title is considered the grand daddy of FPS games and how it's paved the way and continue to influence the FPS genre.

Going through the later episodes on Ultra-Violence actually had me fully immersed into the game and its (pretty simple, all things considered) combat loop. Managing resources, figuring out which guns are more ammo efficient against which enemy types, and exploring the handcrafted levels for cheeky secrets; it's all still so much fun despite its age.

A must-play for anyone who loves the FPS genre, both for its lean fun factor and cultural significance.

There isn't necessarily a right way to play Doom Eternal, but there is definitely a wrong way to play it. This is honestly the deciding factor for most players.

If you're the type to look for the easiest way out, to find the best gun to solve all your problems, or to be "given" the power fantasy through grinding or progression; then this game isn't for you.

But if you're the type that enjoys being able to "earn" the power fantasy by learning a game's systems and mastering its combat loop (similar to something like Sekiro in essence), then Doom Eternal is a must-play for you.

Nothing else quite like it. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time. Bless you Hugo Martin, and please pay Mick Gordon.
