I think any game that's free deserves some praise, especially when they offer multiplayer to enhance the experience.
That said in the spirit of giving constructive criticism, the puzzles in the game are sometimes far fetched. For example in one of the rooms you learn the combination of a hidden cabinet by looking at the length of a hat, bag, scarf and umbrella hanging of the wall. There's just no way a player would naturally connect the two and I find it hard that the homeowner would meticulously place their outerwear attire in the exact same way as the combination.
Figuring the game out without hints/help is near impossible, but it's somewhat amended if you play with friends and you all inspect the rooms together.
Overall, ok multiplayer game, but somewhat disappointing solo.

Really good horror game without the needless jumpscares. Sometimes the puzzles are a bit hard, and the camera angles a bit confusing but generally really good!

Interesting story and gameplay, but sadly the RNG element in combination with no real permanent progression makes it lose its charm.

I am not a 45 year old father, probably one of the youngest playing this game. I am single, and below drinking age. My mom got me this game for Christmas 2021 and she installed it on my computer. By the end of the week I had 2 hours on this game. This was not hard for my mother, as we spend a lot of quality time together, and I don't have friends or youtube premium. My mom decided to make a steam account and get this game to see if we could play together. She loaded this game, picked her character and world and started playing but got stuck on what she where uspposed to do. She asked me for help and I told her git gud. She hated it as it was the worst time she had ever experienced after her husband died. This game has been refunded and me and my mother are no longer on speaking terms.

Early Access Review
This game was the first ever horror game I could enjoy without having to be afraid of cheap jumpscares. There were moments where things happend suddenly, but at no time did a ghost jump into my face and scream. I continued playing alone and phasmophobia is one of the best horror game I've ever played.

So why can't I reccomend it? The devs have changed their approach with the patches.

The game has gotten harder on every front. Electronic equipment now makes *sound* that will attract the ghost, ghosts are generally faster, hiding spots are blocked off/removed, cheap tricks are being removed more and more with every content patch, every new map is harder than the last AND all of this has happend without any increase to the rewards. In addition, most if not all of these changes are not announced to the player. You're required to read either the patch notes or follow youtubers/streamers in order to figure out how not to die in a ever increasing difficult game.

The game has changed from focusing on identifying the ghost to hiding from the ghost. In the previous patches, a big part of your run was about looking for clues and evidence with the ghost messing with you every now and then. These days though, you get to the hunting phase super quickly and it occurs more frequently. This is even worse on bigger maps, where identifying the ghost room is a big chore already, nevermind having to risk your life to get any sort of clue.

I went from earning money on every run to being lucky to break even. I'm forced to either participate in low-difficulty missions to earn slivers of money, or do a difficult one with a high chance of dying. This game is different, so different that I can't reccomend it anymore.

While the game on the surface seems fun I found it to be quite repetitive and RNG-based. The survivors(playable characters) that you pick have their own unique abilities and attack but your power level will mostly be determined by the items you pick up, which means that your strenght during the run will depend less on your choice of play and more on RNG. The bosses you face will also be repetitive, using the same attacks and same pattern over and over again. There is also a lack of diversity with the enemies, during the later stages of the game you'll just meet re-colored enemies that have higher HP and damage output. The maps, while having small variantions, lack any real diversity and your playthroughs will happen on almost identical maps everytime.

During multiplayer the money is distributed amongst all players (ie a party of 4 will split 100 bucks four ways, 25/player). To get items you have to open crates which cost money but they only drop 1 item each. That means while the money you earn is split amongst teammates, it's up to you and your friends how you distribute the actual items which slows the pace of an otherwise fast and active game.

Overrall, too much RNG based and it feels like it's still in early access. It has its moments, so if you wanna get it I'd reccomend getting it on sale. Otherwise keep your buck and buy another rogue-like game.
