The game does get repetitive, and kinda boring after 20 hours.
I lost interest after leveling a few classes I liked. The story is kinda meh.
You can see a lot of assets/animations ripped from Monster Hunter (because Capcom) in the game.

Which, honestly, i put hundreds of hours into Monster Hunter World, and I still occasionally go back to that game.

This is fun for a bit, then it quickly falls off.

And oh man, does this game run like ♥♥♥♥ on PC. Another poorly optimized port.
And no Steam Deck support. That's a fail.

Update: Back to thumbs-down.
Recent patch has made certain weapons/kits worthless.
The only good primary weapon is the Breaker, and devs have pretty much said they don't plan on buffing any others.

Nerf to the Railgun. Spear is worthless. Recoilless needs help. Expendable needs help.

They're just forcing players to use a mediocre meta, while adding a lot more modifiers to missions that are just gonna make them tedious and annoying to to. Ya'll trying to kill this game or what?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: Servers are finally consistently stable. Not perfect, but stable.
Back to Thumbs-Up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: Thumbing down until they get server issues fixed.

No games to join. Shows 0 players active. You guys have got to get this ♥♥♥♥ fixed. it's 2024... Learn how to netcode..
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a Recommend for now, but the game admittedly needs A LOT of help.

First. You gotta get that "Failed to Join Lobby" Fixed.

Second. Remove this required PSN Linked Account ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. One of the worst things for gaming that has cropped up over the last few years are these companies deciding that players need to make an account through another service (or their own), and then login to it to play the game. No. We bought the game on Steam. Steam is the only account we want to use. We don't want to be required to link our accounts to PlayStation, or Bethesda, or <insert whatever development company here>.

Third. you gotta adjust progression a bit. You have the normal pass which lets players unlock new armor, cosmetics, some weapons. But, you have all the assault rifles locked behind the Premium Currency Battle Pass... And your base pass doesn't let players earn enough premium currency to buy Premium. Also some of the required time it would take to get enough medals to unlock each pass is just... insane.

The rest of the game feels quite good. There's a great game here, hidden under some money-grubby tactics, and some incompetence in coding the multiplayer connections.

You fix these issues, and you easily have a 10/10 game.

Spray-n-Pray Simulator 2023.
The time-to-kill is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥...
So many gadgets. So little firearms.
No weapon tuning/customization.
Obnoxiously loud with the music, announcers, and all that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Like, shut the ♥♥♥♥ up. damn.
Progression is..... mehhhhh. Im not really motivated to unlock any cool customizations. Id rather it go the old school BF route, and have a lot more class abilities/unlocks to progress through. The progression in this game just doesn't excite me, at all.

I'll stick with Hunt: Showdown. Where bullets actually kill things. And you have to make your shots count.

This is MY Game of The Year for 2023. Yes I know it's Early Access.
but this game is fun as hell. And it's so impressive for being an EA game.
It's fun solo or with friends. Has great progression. It runs at 144 FPS for me so I know it's already optimized (extra props to the devs for that).

It's a blast. Get it. you're stup!d if you don't...

The more the game sits in my library, the more I realize I can't really recommend it.
I'm utterly bored of it after 9 hours. I keep seeing it there, and I finally couldn't hold off the urge to just uninstall it.

I remember clocking in a hell of a lot more with MK11.
The story is okay, but not as good as MK11.
The game modes are okay. But not as good as 11.
The roster is good. But not as good as 11.
Getting my drift here?

If you own MK11, you basically already own a better game.
MK1 also has this gods-awful switch back and forth to 30 FPS. Invasions mode is boring. Towers are meh.

For something that only gave me 9 hours of enjoyment, I can't recommend it for the current price tag. It's a MK game in which you wait for a sale before buying.

39 hours in from the Premium access.

It's been a great experience for the most part. Those who would make pointless attempts to compare it to Star Citizen need to remember Starfield is an FPS RPG set in space. and Star Citizen is an FPS Space Simulation game!

Starfield makes something a little more casual. a little more accessible. More focused on story quests, and side adventures. I dare even say, arcade-like at some points (ship to ship combat, space dogfights).

And I can break down every single aspect, bit by bit, or I can just say - If you liked Fallout/Skyrim, and you like the space/future setting, then you'll likely enjoy this as well.

-1 point for outpost building. It can be downright tedious, unintuitive, and, frustrating at times.
-1 point for the research station. Just downright tedious at times. I don't find it to be all that rewarding, because, once you finally research something, you're right back in the grind for resources to try and build these mods you've now unlocked.
-1 point for lack of info, descriptions, and general guidance about items, ship abilities, perks, etc. "Shielded Cargo hold will keep your contraband from being scanned." *ports to a new system. gets scanned. notices a % chance to avoid detection* "THAT IS *NOT* WHAT WAS DESCRIBED! you didn't say there's a chance. you said it hides contraband. period." I share this little story/tidbit, because the game can tell you one thing, and then your experience with a mechanic turns out to have some fine print that was left out. Some perks really need more explanation. and ship parts definitely need descriptions on what is different, other than just numbers. Does one missle launcher fire 1 singular rocket? does it fire a salvo? What's the difference between one laser and another. one cannon and another. other than cycled rounds, and damage.... Give us real info. real descriptions.

Those gripes aside. The game is engrossing, fun, and easy to find something to do, and spend hours doing it. I very much appreciate the main story doesn't grab your character by the scruff of their neck, and nag them through, which, in other games, discourages side quests, exploration, etc. The story in Starfield gives your character lots of chances to take a break, go off on your own, explore the galaxy, fight some pirates, smuggle some loot, and otherwise do what YOU WANT TO DO. And there's not a timer. there's not a settlement that needs your help all the time......there's nothing constantly breathing down your neck.
For a game this size, with this much meat to it, it's really nice that it gives you time to chew everything up, and just enjoy the full course of things.

Mods will likely improve the gripes I listed above. The future looks pretty good for Starfield right now. I can't wait to play more. I don't know if Starfield will win GOTY 2023, but I certainly can't argue with it, if it does.

Performance:
I range from 60-100 FPS on high settings, except for Motion Blur OFF and Particle Effects LOW. I'm running an EVGA 3070 FTW and an i9 11900k, with the game installed on a Samsung EVO SSD for very fast load times. Loading screens show up for all of 1-5 seconds.
In 39 hours of play, i've experienced one singular crash, but didn't lose any progress thanks to diligent autosaves. I really can't find much to complain about as far as bugs, optimization, or other performance issues. I simply haven't experienced any persistent issues with the game performing.

Not my cup of tea. I find the combat pretty boring, and the controls are very clunky.
It's not a difficulty issue. I beat the tutorial boss that everyone was crying about on the second try. About 15 minutes into the game. But I normally play FromSoft games all the time. So, maybe that helped prep me for the difficulty.

I remember older AC games having more fluid control and movement. The graphics are great though. and the sound design is good. It'll probably scratch the itch for all the mech warriors out there. But, just not my thing.

Refunding for now. may pick it back up again on a sale or something.
