I have issues playing most things on my potato PC and this game does not work well for it's minimum specs, and I don't know how it's allowed. RAM leak or something going on, for absolutely no good reason this game is RAM intensive BUT I still liked the gameplay. SO i picked it up on Switch and drained 55 hours or so of my life into it. It's fun. It's a fun game in the same area of exactly what you think it is. A Harvest-like game like Stardew Valley. A nonlinear RPG that still manages to find linearity in how you progress, but it's still fun. HOWEVER! Even on the Switch the game is so intensive for no good reason that it has weird lag spikes, crashes after medium long to long sessions of play, and the more time on the file and the more you have going on means shorter sessions, and potentially losing progress. The game only saves when you sleep in bed, so you COULD lose progress over a few days in game if you're not sleeping and it crashes. So, be warned there. Besides frequently crashing, the 'end' was mostly ♥♥♥♥. I'll save for spoilers but spending all that time to get to the end, felt bad. There are a lot of clunky things about "leveling" which is done in the style of a tech tree, but they work well and smart planning is rewarded as you chain unlock some of the things you can do. I managed to skip a HUGE section of upgrades for graveyard quality and went from the second type that decore you unlock, to the highest quality of that, because I planned it out. Some of the story elements were neat but mostly just hamfisted MMO-style fetch quests, BUT most of the ways to complete those missions are open or have multiple ways to meet that goal, which was great to weight options on. But even with all the good things I see in this game, it all just falls apart for the previously mentioned reasons.

Maybe if it was a finished game I could recommend it, but I won't because the game is absolutely not a finished product, so why even buy DLC when it doesn't work as intended the first time around?

This is a dialogue driven, late-90s, early 2000s nostalgia Centered game in a 4K Action Shooter world. Or at least that's what marketers would tell you.

From here I will be going into mild depth about the game, no spoilers, but some of the ideas presented may take away from some of the, how should I say, purity? of just playing it instead, which I very much recommend even if it takes a little while to get the immersion you are looking for.

I would like to say this is a mixed-media game, and I'm aware that mixed-media isn't exactly a spot-on tag but between the light platforming, world exploration, and different themes of each area you go through and how very differently they are even presented, forced perspective areas, 2D/3D change, and with the non-linear freedom you're given at many points.

The first threshold of the game that I could see turning some people off is that the "tutorial" designed areas are extremely simple, they are so simple that it first feels like a baby game, you might even feel as if you're doing something wrong because it's so simple. This doesn't go away quickly, the game is paced like this for the sake of its narrative, it makes sense after what I will say is the second act, but it took me until then to realize how purposefully it was. I started getting a lot of Earthbound and early PS1 RPG vibes, with a little bit of that early indie 3D game vibe. Combat is all non-traditional, which makes everything you do more of a puzzle, this game will test how well you adapt to situations and how effectively you can change strategies to approaching problems. Also, you get to drive on a Highway.

I have not finished the game, if my feelings change I will update this to reflect if I feel better or lesser about it in anyway, but right now I'd give in total around a 7.8/10 because to this point I feel that this was all intentionally designed this way, BUT this game is not for everyone. I can see a 13 or 14 year-old kid just wasting hours looking at everything while many adults will get bored or even aggravated at some of the lack or hand-holding (which is a plus in my book).
7.8/10

Amendum: Firstly you do NOT need to play Anodyne 1 in order to play this. They are connected but you can play them in either order. So, I've finished the game now, from what I can tell at least. I do REALLY like the game. I appreciate the the narrative and the rhetoric involved, and there's a specific minigame-like section of the game that was cute and fun as heck, and it was good because it wasn't a whole game by itself. However, there is some end-game and other content that I really didn't like much... as a game, the way it was presented, but I did strangely enjoy exploring it, for the most part.
7.8/10 still stands for me, but I do recommend reading other reviews to see if this is a game for you.

Fantastic game to play with other people, the single player challenges are exceptionally challenging (even feel impossible sometimes),
It is not an official Tetris game, but the physics give it a sort of randominity along side different modes and challenges during gameplay that are refreshing.
My main complaint is that there is no "drop" button, you just have to hold down, and it feels much better on a controller but still playable on a keyboard and you can change the keybinds if you so wish, which is a big deal to me for accessibilty reasons.

I got this game for $0.50 USD.
It is worth $0.50 USD.

I did have fun with it, but it was mostly the experience playing with the people I was playing with than anything else. It was neat to explore and figure out what was going on but once you realize that everything is the exact same "proceedureally genereation" circle it's more like Zebra Stripe gum. It's great at first but damn does it lose it's flavor fast.

If the devs fixed the loading and crashing issues with the game that they claim to attempt to be working on, and fixed the balancing issues, and had more than the tiny bit of dunegoneering that there is to this- yea maybe it is a lost cause.

If you can get it for a $1 or less it's a fun night with buddies and/or drinks. Otherwise, don't bother. DLC Classes are straight up buying power.

Get ready for a heavy dose of meloncholic-cute, loot puzzle, story centric adventure. While, average the game for basic completeion is only about 10 hours don't worry about that. It's more than plenty for the amount of an experience the story of this game is.

It's a simiplistic adventure game for PC, with contorller support that makes sense and customizeable keybinds.
I'd really love to just gush about the game's story and interactions; but I can't, it's too worth it to play. I can say that everything feels very rewarding even if it feels a little simple at times, but the target audience is so wide that anyone that can use a computer and/or a controller on a PC can enjoy this game to it's fullest extent.

If you don't have a lot of time a couple hours here and there seem fine. There are natural gamplay exit points that feel like appropriate stopping times for a session. You can also just binge and play the entire game in one sitting if you tried.

The reason it probably doesn't get as much acclaim as it should is due to the graphic style, with so many games using 8 and 16 bits styles that have oversaturated the market, sometimes it's difficult to find the gems.

I'd give it an A, Immersive. Rewarding. Enjoyable regardless of age. Can't stress how much I want to just talk about the story because it's so great. I would change the metacritic review to 89 if I could. 100% deserving to be in everyone's library.

This "platformer" is secretly a marble madness-like puzzle adventure game! The music is Astounding~! I listen to it all the time!

You can really just explore the levels and what they have to offer, or you can batten down the hatches and try to solve all the little mysteries of the game. There are some strange difficulty spikes for those that love to be OCD about collecting and solving. Its probably still one of the best games Two Tribes has to offer! Lots of replay value simply because of the music.

Its a great casual desktop game at work too, and still really accessible for kids.

INDIE! Its a platformer challenge with relaxing and immersive sounds and music. You can tell the game was made on a budget, but everything is designed very well. Its a little slow paced for a while, but there are sections that really speed up, and plenty of puzzles to rack your brain for a little bit. Low replay value, its fun the first time though... can get a little... trippy. Have fun!!

What starts off as a seemly boring job at border patrol, quickly escalates into a full, in-depth, bureaucratic, nightmare of checking over rules, and making sure that you aren't the next hit in the Kolechia extremists' broodish take over of the region. The game is a great semi-rogue like with various endings. Its a testament to the old-school challenge, mixed with some of the modern drama games bring. One of the best current Indie games, and great on touch screen devices too. It'll keep you on high alert, and even bring a few laughs.

Your life isn't complete without at least playing this game.

DO NOT let the name fool you. The name has very little to do with ANYTHING. Its a fascinating, mind-blowing, reality-altering, future-predicting, puzzle game of madness! The soundtrack is great, the controls are pretty comforatble.

If you remember loving the moments in Portal when your mind was blown because of a puzzle, prepare to have what little bits of brain you have left, to be melted.

Brain meltingly awesome.
Well worth the pricetag of only $5 as well.
