This is one of the best immersive sims I've ever played.
And no, it has nothing to do with the original Prey. Absolutely nothing.

To begin with, the first thing one sees: the game looks amazing, even today.
Graphics are great, and the level design is really well done.

The game is very atmospheric. It's eerie enough to make it spooky, but not scary, and the sound effects add a lot to this.
Also, with the space station looking in disarray, it feels quite a lot like a futuristic Bioshock.
In fact, the influence Bioshock had on Prey is more than obvious.

Being an immersive sim, you'll end up looking for codes, key cards, or different ways of accessing certain areas of the station.
You'll end up revisiting each section a few times, and the more you do, the more immersive it seems, especially in the second part of the game, when the station becomes more corrupted by the alien presence, the eerie atmosphere intensifies, and the decaying becomes more obvious.

In terms of gameplay, Prey lets you approach every section and every side quest differently, depending on how advanced your skills are or how many codes and keys you've found. Or haven't found, since there are ways to bypass this as well.

The skill tree is interesting, allowing you to use only normal, human skills or to become fully alien in skill. Or anything in between.
And this also changes the way the station reacts to your presence over time.

Your gameplay style, skills, and the way you follow the story and the side quests will also influence the ending, giving you one of the 3 (plus one 'fake') endings. The endings, however, are not what one would expect.

Overall, Prey is an amazing game that deserved more than it got, and it's really worth its money, especially since it's not a short game at all.
