SCORN is a highly atmospheric Biopunk game in the style of H.R. Giger.

A beautiful but fairly short game. Keep in mind, quality over quantity.
It is a exploration and puzzle game first and foremost!
The combat aspect is secondary and plays little significance, stop crying, this ain't a shooter game.

A techno-organic alien nightmare with little explained to you, but enough for you to rely on intuition and click around to understand what needs to be done.


I have waited so long for this game, it looked so fresh and unique when first announced.
But I am a Warframe player and have seen infested mutant biology on Deimos and Giger-esque architecture inside the Murex ships of the Sentients. Combine these two and you get SCORN.
I ain't complaining, the more biopunk the better. I am huge fan of the genre.

Okay. I went in expecting one thing, ended up getting another.

But that's fine.

I'm gonna say it right upfront: Scorn is not for everybody and it will never be. It's certainly not a pleasant, either satisfying experience. The game is slow as hell. The combat is wonky. You won't do anything besides walk around and solve puzzles. The game is very punishing and doesn't give you hints of what to do, and those coming here for a deep, fleshed out story will come out empty handed and left wandering what the hell did you just play.

But, if you are one who's willing to go on a very immersive, atmospheric ride, come closer.

Like I said, this game is not a pleasant experience and that goes to many ways. Yeah, the game is very slow... And also disturbing, very graphic. It's surrealist, psycho-sexual nightmare extremely inspired by HR Giger works are great to look at and experience, but it's also very unnerving and a lot of times you'll find youself doing some very unpleasent things to proceed. And although the game doesn't give you any hints to what to do in the puzzles, it encourages you to seek for answers and explore, and that's how you find out how most of the puzzles can be solved, as well as discover where to go and what to do. It's a deeply visual narrative and while that's interesting in its own merits, the overly designed levels might also make you feel lost pretty quickly, which might be the point, but a very big turn off to some. But if you are willing to go deep and explore and find out how things work on your own, then this might be a very intriguing experience.

About the narrative, it is overall very simple. The character wants to get from point A to point B. But the motives behind his actions, the background story, the worldbuilding and the reasons for all you see are left VERY ambiguous and if that's not your thing, another turn off. If you enjoy some cosmic horror mixed with body horror and like to think that the ambiguity of it all that makes it scary and fun, then this might be your thing. The narrative will leave you wondering... A lot. A LOT. If you have 10 questions, it will answer one of them, and leave half-answered two, and the rest, it will leave them behind quietly while it takes you forward. Maybe asking the "WHYs" isn't the point, and getting the "BECAUSE's" is far from being it either.

Just enjoy the ride. Enjoy the nightmarish visuals. The violence, the body horror, the linguering disturbing questions. The suggestive horror. The game might not be scary in a traditional sense, but it'll sure make you disturbed by what it has to show you... As well by what it doesn't show, or tell you. It's a cool a experience, but like I said, not a rewarding or pleasant one.

I'm recommending because, despite its faults (and a very annoying bug towards the end that made me restart the level), I found myself intrigued, immersed and interested in a way very few games did. If you like that sort of stuff, then go for it.

If you want something more traditional, this might disappoint you a lot.
