Zero Innovation, Bland Gameplay, Cringe Writing

Not sure what I expected. But if you've played any AC game from the past 10 years or so, you've played this one. After about 15 hours I realized the rest of the game would be identical. It's the same bland, tired and uninspired combat they've all had.

This game seems somehow more grindy than the other recent releases. I assume by design, to have you spend money on their pathetic online store. I don't think a company exists that cares less for its customers than Ubisoft. Just disrespectful. Oh you want that sweet new sword? Can't earn that in game. You must spend money on top of the $70 you already spent to have the coolest gear.

And no matter how much grind you put in to this bloated bland fest, the gameplay is the same. They spent a good amount building out the world with detail and it looks nice, but you don't get to learn the territory and appreciate it that much considering you just tag a waypoint and it'll draw a line on screen to follow. The game is made for turning your brain off and cycling the same button presses over and over and over again.

The dialog? Yikes. Like most of these modern AAA releases, it seems like it was written by someone who's never had a significant relationship in their life. No one talks like this. No one. Except maybe in the overly PC world of corporate America. It's alarming how awful the writing is in modern AAA games. If writing was my profession, I would be embarrassed to have my name in the credits of these games.

So after 20+ hours of this game, all it made me do is reinstall Ghosts of Tsushima. A massively better game in all aspects. So for those that want a samauri / japanese setting, do yourself a favor and go pickup the better option.

People giving bad reviews because they're downloading a 90GB 4K texture pack while using 4070's or below, and not even a 4K panel. Not the sharpest tools in the shed.

I put an embarrassing amount of hours into the original Cities: Skylines. A simple graphical update with a few new features would've been a questionable decision but good enough. What they did instead, was release a broken game, with still present performance issues (even on a 7800X3D+4090) and seemingly pointless systems.

But the nail in the coffin for me, is announcing and releasing paid DLC, while the game is in this state. The decision makers responsible, are a cancer in this industry. Zero shame, when they should have mountains of it. You ruined your rep and don't seem like anyone cares enough to repair it. Too bad.

The game is great so far. Performance needs to be improved as even on my 7800X3D/4090 the game can get rough in cities. The other RE Engine titles run great so I expect this to be the same. But the review bombing its getting is absurd. While mtx is lame as a rule of thumb... the implementation here is a non-issue. People are upset it doesn't run well on their 8 year old potatoes so they pile on nonsensical hate.

Played through the game at launch. Enjoyed it, but it was lackluster. The changes made in 2.0 and the DLC have made this game a masterpiece. Play it. Also, maxing this game out on a 7800X3D+4090 is the best looking game available, and probably will for awhile.

Put about 10-15 hrs in on the Epic store version after launch. Got caught up with other things and saw it released on Steam. After install and a reboot I load the game and after cut scenes (that ran like garbage) I'm greeted with a game that runs at 15fps. When I played the EGS version I was running a 9900K + 2080 Ti. The game was clunky but ran more or less fine fps wise.

The only difference in my system since getting the Steam version was adding a RTX 3090 (and use a LG C9 4K/120hz.) No matter what settings, I get 15fps. I went down a resolution notch, still 15 fps. Clearly there's some compatibility issue. Not sure what it is and I don't care. Games been out long enough. No excuses. Refunding.

Fun game. However, once you've enjoyed the hell out of it and want to go back and start a new game... they make you sit through every single intro, every single cut scene and every single tutorial. That's nonsense.

Don't even like card games. This game though, I apparently like.

Early Access Review
I have a love hate relationship with this game. I'm very close to giving it a thumbs down for a minor but critical issue that has made me rage too often.

PROS:

-If you love base building with aspects of tower defense, this is your game.
-Art design, graphics, animations, etc are all great (esp at 4K)
-Sound is good, unit voices are really good
-Unit design / use is good (though I'm not sure the need for Lucifer units?)

CONS:

-Game can be hard. Even on the absolute easiest setting, you'll lose your first few games simply because you don't know how the waves increase over time.
-Suffers from bad map building (auto generated) and once you learn the ropes you'll find yourself just auto restarting to a new game after a few minutes of scouting due to just awful map placement of resources, enemie hives, etc.

The BIGGEST issue I have with this game is the f$%king notification system. Devs HAVE to improve it. Strictly when it comes to your base being under attack. I don't know how many times I've put in 1+ hour into a map and just to get the equivilant of sucker punched by some scrub zombie that hits my housing units and cascades into a loss. It's cheap.
