I just replayed it after finishing the classic. I had played the classic previously, but I only did Leon A, now I just finished all of the scenarios.

I didn't really like the game, but I wanted to give it another chance and came back to it with an open mind after a few years.
So, here are my overall thoughts on it:

The gameplay is nice, some of the redesigns are pretty good, and the new layout of RPD makes a lot more sense. Puzzles are far better too.
Story-wise.. it sucks. The original does it far better, while the remake takes a lot of parts that made sense out, including pretty much every single encounter Claire and Leon have in the game. Yes, there are some pieces that are better, such as Marvin's role and Annette's entire character, Brian Irons is also fantastic now, but overall the story is pretty bad compared to the original. The A and B scenarios of both of the characters are also handled really poorly, only changing the way you get into the RPD and making some puzzles different. Differences between Claire and Leon's campaigns are pretty slim too, especially considering how the B scenario doesn't change anything relevant.

I think one of my biggest complaints tho is the atmosphere. It just doesn't do it for me.. the game is silent almost all the time, all you hear are your character's actions and the enemies', and a few creaking noises from the ambient or some machine making sounds in specific places, sometimes nonsensical noises from things falling that aren't there, and even the rain can barely be heard throught the game. Yes, there are a few dramatic songs that play here and there, but a lot of them annoy more than they contribute to the feeling of the areas. And the save room song despite being good is too silent and only plays once in the entire game once you hear it in a room.
The original had such a great and macabre atmosphere, with the howling wind as if it's a ghost town, and zombies' moaning echoes in the background. Most of the rooms have songs that give you an eerie vibe, it's just really good sound design all around. The remake's just isn't good imo, and it really hurts the experience.

Another thing I have to point out is what they did to some of the enemies. The crows and the spiders were completelly removed from the game and I really missed them, especially the spiders since you get so many blue herbs and hardly ever get poisoned. They also removed the moth, which was a pretty short appearance of an enemy but it's role made sense to me. The ivies had a really poor redesign, going from slow poisoning plants that attack from afar and attack you even after they died and that, as the spiders, poison you. They also removed the green lickers from the lab area, which may not be a big thing but it made them fit into the area where they were in.

That's pretty much it tho. Only other thing I have to mention is the unnecessary futuristic take they had on the game, with Ada's ridiculous hacking device and the labs being straight up garbage compared to the original, both in the way they fit into the story and into the time it's set in.

Is it a good experience? I'd say yeah, it's fun. It's short tho, don't expect this to be different compared to RE3, even in my first playthrough exploring everything I could I finished it in 5 hours.
Is it better than the original? Nope, not at all. It just can't replace it.
