Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the sequel I've been waiting for, returning to the roots of what made the first game so special. It adds a handful of new and interesting mechanics to its tactical battles, nearly all of which improve the formula in tangible ways, but otherwise plays it fairly safe.

There has been a lot of opinion bandied about regarding Hogwarts Legacy, which makes its cross-platform debut on 10th February 2023.

Much of the discussion is not really about the game itself, but instead around the divisive creator of the Harry Potter world, J.K. Rowling. We bring the author up as her controversial comments regarding the game, and her profiting over its release, has divided the internet over whether it should be played.


Rich in detail
One area we cannot fault the game on, is the sheer amount of things to see and areas to explore. The map is quite vast, and is not only limited to the castle and its surrounds. To that end, for completionists, Hogwarts Legacy will have plenty of offer, whether it be lore, odd tasks in and around the map, and cosmetics to earn.

The world is also immensely detailed, with plenty of nods to the source material, such as paintings moving and talking, suits of armour standing at attention when you pass, as well as many puzzles to complete in order to earn gold or more aesthetic elements.


Walls of dialogue
Now we need to talk (excuse the pun) about the most frustrating aspect of Hogwarts Legacy – all the dialogue. Interactions with NPCs, many of which are necessary, often involved at least a few mins of dialogue that you have to work through.

While this is manageable in the opening couple of stanzas of the game, especially as you are still coming to grips with the world around you, very quickly you’ll find yourself skipping these conversations, only worrying about the ones key to the main quests. Again this is fine in the opening few hours of the game, but can get grating, especially for those who don’t enjoy those kinds of RPG experiences.

Combat system

What’s the fighting like? In a word, boring.

The battle system in the game is fairly straightforward, with a handful of spells/charms (fire-based ones mainly) dealing damage to enemies when engaged in combat. You also need to react against two types of attack, ones that can be blocked and countered, and ones that cannot not.

It is a system that many games, including the amazing God of War Ragnarok uses, but if you are looking for a challenge, even on the harder difficulties, you may be left wanting.

Here is where a student, or even faculty, antagonist would have been a great addition, as everyone at this version of Hogwarts is a little too chummy. We’re not saying students need to be at each throats the whole time, but every NPC in the game was unnervingly friendly. Perhaps things have changed since we went to high school?

That said, there are a few bigger bosses that will get the adrenaline going, but if you’re hoping that regular wand duels will get the job done, they simply won’t.


Final thoughts

What I enjoyed far more though, was flying. Being able to mount a broom and start exploring areas aerially or weaving through buildings never gets old. The same goes for riding beasts, although actually getting one to cooperate is perhaps more rewarding.

It is moments like this that Hogwarts Legacy simply does not have enough of, and while the game itself is solid in its presentation, polished to a high sheen in terms of visuals, and cleverly referencing its source material, you are left wanting more.

Whether that comes in the form of higher stakes, or a steeper difficulty grade for your character, who is seemingly a natural at everything, it feels like you can play Hogwarts legacy in second or third gear most of the time.

While the two games are generations apart, Hogwarts Legacy feels like Rockstar’s Bully with magic powers thrown into the mix. The difference is that the latter was a lot more fun to play.

Is the new Dead Space a remake or reboot?

And then we saw an even more cut-and-dry confirmation of the game's status as a remake. Under the trailer on YouTube, an official description says: “The sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up by Motive Studios to offer a deeper and more immersive experience."

What is the difference between remaster and remake?
What's the difference between a remake and a remaster? A remake is a recreation or realization of a film from the past. A remaster is taking something from the past which already exists, and altering it. One is a brand new reimagining, the other is taking the same thing as it is and making it look/sound better.

How long is the Dead Space remake?
around 11-12 hours

In October 2017, publisher Electronic Arts unceremoniously shut down its studio Visceral Games, best known for shooter series Dead Space. Visceral was part of a dwindling breed at EA, devoted to linear high-budget games instead of a profitable “live service” model. One former employee noted that even the popular Dead Space 2 had been considered a financial failure, and the odds of a new one appearing in the near future seemed small. Yet tomorrow, EA will do just that, releasing a remake of the original 2008 Dead Space developed by its Canadian team Motive Studio. The Dead Space remake isn’t the path I’d have chosen for a resurrection of one of my favorite series. It also happens to be great.

Uncle gets plenty of lip from John in Red Dead Redemption 2, but he also gets it from the protagonist. This quote, which Arthur utters while he and Uncle walk through town together, is the favorite of quite a few Red Dead players, and for good reason.

Uno esperaria que los juegos de Firaxis vengan mas o menos pulidos.
Lastimosamente Midnight Suns esta un poco buggeado.

Pero es divertido!!
Y esta en oferta, por ende lo recomiendo adquirir ahorita si eres FAN de Marvel.

Signalis also lets you conserve your ammo and items if you wish by nimbly moving around foes, though the more times you push your luck, the sooner it’s likely to break. There was this one room, smack bang in the middle of my most often used pathway in the level, that was full of enemies. I couldn’t bring myself to waste my resources on them and would be forced to dance around them over and over, eventually and inevitably placing a foot wrong and finding myself brutally beaten to death for my hubris. There is a viciousness to Signalis’ foes, a limited but intimidating roster of Replika’s in various states of decay, each unleashing a scream when they spot you.

There are dozens of small touches that make Signalis an aesthetic and tonal triumph, though most are best discovered in the moment. I’m reminded of the traditional save room soothing melody being violently interrupted by the sound of the save system kicking in, or the layering of technical glitches and filters to give cutscenes an otherworldly but tangible horror. In these moments, rose-engine flex a sense of style well beyond the medium, drawing on arthouse cinema techniques and minimalist storytelling. Countless inspiration points are colliding here, from anime to Lynch, but somehow Signalis holds its nerve and thrives in the maelstrom.

Signalis is a kaleidoscope of horror tropes and foundational mechanics elevated by insightful tonal work and tightly constructed core gameplay. Even more surprising and thrilling that this is rose-engine’s first commercial release, signalling a tremendous command of systems, aesthetics and, most importantly, intent. Signalis is independent game development at its best, reverential to the past but unafraid to infuse classic genre work with exciting, and deeply personal, new blood.

But most important part... Signalis isn't a survival horror it is most like constant tense moments without relaxation

I am a 32 year old father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my son, who is now 15. My son downloaded Satisfactories and in less than a week, he had already played for over 11 hours. This was terrible for me, as it was already hard enough for me to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching videos on Tiktok. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, did the tutorial but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought my son and I closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories
