They made the monsters so much easier because they know you'll have to deal with the input lag from the mandatory fake frames.

sick of games running like ♥♥♥♥. either make a proper game or go work for a movie company where your ♥♥♥♥ code doesn't matter because it's all running on a render farm. or a bank where the standard is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ low.

This review used to be a huge negative block of text, but after the last patch, I can now recommend this game. A love letter to movement in first person games, a la Quake and kz_ maps. If you're not a fan of first-person platforming, do yourself a favour and skip this game. If you're not sure, however... There's a free demo to try!

Some criticisms from my former negative review still apply, but they are not deal-breakers. This is mostly for the developer to read. They remain below:

There are sections in the game where you must climb a structure, then go down the same structure. Then go down a structure, and climb back up it. This isn't fun. Managing the fall damage isn't fun. There is trial and error with a lot of these descent portions where the platform below you is either just inside, or just outside of the fall kill threshold. There is no way to know unless you try the drop and end up killing yourself first.

Horizontal movement is really, really boring. If you've sprint-jumped in a straight line in Minecraft, you know what I'm talking about. The only thing you can do to move fast in this game is hold W. In the level Ancient Cistern, you are forced to traverse a great distance like this and it really starts to wear you down. Every now and then I press control while I'm walking forward, hoping I'd start sliding to go a little faster, but no such luck.

The story is just a few beats between the platforming. You will traverse great distances and depths only for an oddly detailed object to appear, reminding you that the game has a story. The pacing between these environmental storytelling bubbles is very slow however, so I lost interest. A lot of it is back-loaded in the final levels.

**Post-BIG update:** the end level is still too difficult. I can obviously clear it much better now on my 5th, 6th tries, but realistically you would want an entire extra episode worth of time spent with the grapple before tackling that final level without just cheesing the checkpoint system. The added practice with the longer calm route is a step in the right path. Also please just remove the kill meatballs entirely. Just turn them into the solid ones from earlier in the sequence. I swear some of those appear in the weirdest spots just to troll you. If this was a Kaizo game I would be happy, but I don't think that's the intended vibe...

Get it on sale.

Lots of time wasted in unskippable sections where memories are presented to you. You can see everything you need to see in 15 seconds, but you're forced to sit there for a minute or two. With all the memories in the game, this really adds up to hours of time spent just waiting, very insulting to your intelligence given this is a mystery game.

All that aside, there's nothing quite like this, so it's still worth playing if you really want a detective game.
