An absolute masterpiece of a game. The story was compelling, the pacing was tight and always keeping you moving but not rushing you, the characters were all quite memorable and interesting; even throwaway side-characters had thought put into them. At 22 hours to get the other 4 endings and then the 5th true ending, it isn't much of a time investment either. I cannot recommend this game enough.

Yet another fantastic entry in the Ys game series. The gameplay is what'd you'd expect from 3D Ys title: it's fast, tight, and (mostly) fluid, though it's not as refined as Origin or Oath in Felghana (which should be expected as this was the first game of the three to use this 3D engine). The music is absolutely phenomenal as always, Falcom's Sound Team never leaves you wanting. The story and characters are great like always, and it was pretty cool getting a bit of extra insight into other things from Ys lore alongside the main story that weren't really explored.

10/10 game, still holds up well today.

Ys Origin is an absolutely wonderful prequel to Ys I & II Chronicles+ with a fantastic soundtrack and 3 characters to play as, with different perspectives on the story. I'd suggest just playing through Yunica story, then Hugo's and then the Third Character's last, as his story is the TRUE ending and such. There is also Time Attack (ie Boss Rush) and Arena modes as well, if playing all 3 characters' stories just wasn't enough for you (it was for me though). Ys Origin is wondeful game, and a wonderful entry in the amazing series that is Ys. I cannot recommend this enough.

If you're new to Ys and are considering starting here, let me stop you now. You'd be better served to actually play Ys I & II Chronicles+ FIRST, despite the chronology, as Ys Origin assumes you've already played at least Ys I & II.

A great entry point for newbies to the shmup/bullet hell genre, mainly because it's just so dang easy. Despite it's easiness it's still pretty dang fun with the 3 different releases of the game (Original, Evolution, and Arcade) all sporting some different features. The soundtrack is nothign amazing, but it's quite serviceable. I couldn't really bring myself to care much about the storyline either, but hey, who plays a game like this for the storyline anyway? Also the novelty of Shame Break, while fun at first, wore off for me after my first run through the game.

I DID end up refunding this, because after going through Mushihimesama and CrimzonClover, this was a bit too easy for me. I still ABSOLUTELY recommened this for those unsure of whether or not they'll like shmup games, but are too intimidated by more difficult titles.

What can be said that hasn't already been said? These two games are fantastic! The first Ys is fairly short; I beat it in about 6 hours (and for some reason that's the time it's showing for this review, insatead of accounting for both times). Ys II is nearly TWICE as long, taking me about 10 hours to beat. So you can expect to get about 15~17 hours overall just depending on how fast/slow you are. THIS is a fantastic starting point if you're looking to get into the Ys game series, or even just Falcom games in general.

This release of the game has a timeless presentation, a fantastic soundtrack (with a myriad of arrangements in various soundtrack/CD releases by Falcom), and a nice albeit simple story. The only real caveat with these titles is getting used to the Bump Combat system, which DOES take some getting used to at first. After a good 30 minutes into the game you'll probably get the hang of it though.

Overall, these are fantastic games, and I would fully recommend even at full price.

Having cleared the main game a long while back and just now finishing the final DLC chapter, I can definitely say I quite enjoyed this game. The atmosphere and sound design are top-notch, and the story that's told purely through actions is fantastic. The controls can be a little finicky when it comes to positioning yourself to perform certain actions however. The only real downside is that you can beat the main game in about 5 or 6 hours. The puzzles aren't difficult overall, though there were a couple of times I got stumped, those few times were short-lived.

I strongly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys horror, and I think the Expansion Pass is worth getting as well. I would urge you to wait until the next big Steam sale however. While I did enjoy this game, and strongly recommend it + the Expansion Pass, I would NOT advise paying full price, as $30 is too much for just barely ~7 hours of play. You may squeeze that into something like 10 hours or so, if you go for all the achievements/hidden collectibles, etc. Wait for the sale.

Having just finished the final episode, The Residence, I can definitely say this Expansion Pass, while overall short, is certainly worth the extra $10. If you're indecisive, wait until the base game is on sale then snag it and the Pass.

All three extra chapters add a pretty interesting perspective to Six's adventures, and the ending, well, you just have to see for yourself. It was a good payoff. The only real downside I see here is that The Residence is shorter than the first two chapters. Still worth the $10 to me though.

Trillion is what I would consider to be "double-niche", as it is a mish-mash of (mainly) two genres: SRPG and Raising Simulator. About 80% of this game is navigating menus and reading the VN-style cutscenes as you train and raise Affection with the Overlord of your choosing (at least for the first 3, the rest after that are in a set order). The other 20% is mystery-dungeon-like gameplay where you navigate on a grid through the Valley of Swords for training or to fight Trillion; anytime YOU move, the enemies will make a move of some sort as well, each move you make being a "turn."

For your very first run, I'd STRONGLY encourage you to forego any sort of guides and just do it blindly, and take your best whack at Trillion that you can, because while there are various ways to go about defeating him, there's a pretty easy way to do it that will suck all the fun out of trying all sort of different playstyles. I had originally played this on the PSVita and, after my first run or so, could no longer play it due to it crashing all the time. I picked it up again here on Steam and I'm pretty glad I did. In addition to the bugs from the Vita version being next-to-nonexistent, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and getting the 10 different endings. There's plenty of everything to go around here: comedic relief bits, fanservice, and heart-wrenching despair as you watch the Overlord, that you trained and who fell in love with you, get eaten like yesterday's leftover potato casserole. If you have the fortitude and willpower for grinding, there's a nice bit to be appreciated by 100%-ing this. That being said, if you just picked this up for cheap on a steam sale, I'd say just just play two or three runs, making your final run the True Ending run for good measure so you get the closure you, and anyone else playing this, would deserve.

Interesting fact about this game is that while it was developed my Compile Heart, quite a few Disgaea staffers were on board with the project, such as the director of Disgaea 4, Masahiro Yamamoto, and the composer for Phantom Brave and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Tenpei Sato. Sato's signature style is very present here, as just like in Disgaea, you'll find yourself humming the tracks that play in the menus, when fighting Trillion, etc. even long after you've been done playing the game.

I very rarely 100% games. I've only ever 100%'d three games in my life, but this one was worth it to me. Getting to see each Overlord's ending, and watch them die again and again and again and again all for the climax in the true final chapter was all-too satisfying.

This game is damn close to flawless. The controls are tight, animations are fluid & gorgeous, and it's VERY challenging but just keeps you coming back for more. I died 335 times before defeating The Devil.

My only gripe with this game is the Run N' Gun levels. The whole point of them really is to break up the constant boss fights, but honestly they felt like an absolute chore. During every Run N' Gun level, I was trying to get through it as fast as possible just to get back to more boss fights. Despite that minor gripe, this game is still an absolute masterpiece.

Also, I feel the need to make a very special mention for the soundtrack, because by-friggin-god the soundtrack is amazing. If your ears could have sex with music, that's what listening to this soundtrack is like; it's pure bliss and just doesn't get old.
