Super fun to raid and build. Still has some bugs and weird balancing decisions, but overall minor issues.

playing this game for the first time was an unforgettable experience. do NOT go into this game knowing anything about it.
the world of outer wilds is so much fun to explore but also sometimes so very stressful, but not in a bad way. it's one of the best games i've ever played. it would probably be so immersive in vr, but it would also give me many heart attacks, so thankfully that's not an option.

also wanted to write down some of my personal experience, so very heavy SPOILERS AHEAD:

I really enjoyed the non-linear storytelling, even if it was sometimes frustrating to not know where to go next / how to figure out some puzzle. I think a lot of what made the game special and also challenging was how it's not like your typical games. In this game, you don't save the world. You don't gain power-ups, and everything is pretty much accessible from the start - you could "beat the game" on loop 1 if you so desired. In a lot of other exploration games, you'll have paths be blocked off artificially until you did or acquired some key item first. Here, all you're missing is information, but if you bruteforce something long enough, you'll probably do it anyways. For example, I managed to land my ship on Black Hole Forge before I ever found out about the corresponding warp tower on Ash Twin. I knew the whole time that this was not the intended solution, but it was cool that I could do it anyway without feeling like I'm exploiting a glitch or something.

I loved hearing the travelers' instruments at the start of the game. I do wish there was more dialogue options after key events happened, but still, hearing the end-of-game orchestra was breathtaking.

Like many others, I initially thought that the Interloper was causing the supernova, and that Chert was wrong. The ghost matter stored in the comet, it going directly into the Sun before the end - I wanted to figure out how to divert its course and save us. Never matter that there was still a considerable delay between the Interloper's disappearance and the actual supernova. I thought it was the reason, and I had a theory that the Nomai had actually been killed some other way very recently - all of which eventually crumbled as I learned about our four-eyed ancestors on Timber Hearth and eventually the culminating info in Ash Twin's core.

Dark Bramble was tough and spooky enough, and it's heart-racing to be chased through dense fog while an angler's light dangles over the front window of your ship. But I actually faced the most fear with Giant's Deep. The first time I broke through its cloud cover and saw the murky, roiling sea and massive cyclones, I left and told myself I wasn't coming back. Not unless I had no other choice. Thalassophobia's the word - when I was exploring the Orbital Probe Cannon and accidentally fell out of orbit and onto the planet, I cannot describe how terrified I was. Just imagine spiraling out of control into this vast, dangerous sea where your jetpack almost useless and the wind's tossing you around and there's no help in sight - if drowning was possible in this game, I don't know what I would've done. With Dark Bramble, my heart's racing and sure I'm anxious, but I wasn't too terrified. I actually never got eaten until I started looking for the Vessel, so piloting away from anglerfish wasn't too big of a deal at first. But Giant's Deep actually made me want to go, screw it, get me out of here, I'll beat the game without you.

But of course I had to come back eventually. The lure of information and progression trumped fear. Though coming back to Giant's Deep later with my ship, it really wasn't any better. I left it to explore one of the floating islands and slipped into the water. Bobbing in the waves until I found an island, then realizing that my jetpack wasn't even enough to get me off the ground and back into my irresponsibly parked ship - that hopelessness hurt.

Having beat the game for the first time, I've gotten a lot better at it now. I figured out how the cyclones work, how to sink into the core safely, how to land my ship in more accessible places, found Gabbro - knowledge is comfort, and so is experience. Knowing how the planet worked eventually made it less scary, though I still don't exactly enjoy the experience. Not at all.

Also, man, my final loop was such a wild experience, personally. I'd been to the Vessel and was trying to figure out what to do with the burnt out warp core, as I already knew the coordinates for the eye. I tried taking the core to the big electric tower things you see on some planets, including both twins, and obviously it didn't work. Then I saw the log entry about the advanced warp core in Ash Twin, and everything clicked into place. I knew what to do, but that didn't mean it'd be easy.

So I went to the warp tower and got into the core of Ash Twin for the first time. The writings on the wall wrapped up the story's plot for me, connecting the dots between all the Nomai's efforts to find the eye and their end because of the Interloper which I found very early on. I got the new warp core, went back to my ship, and set off for Dark Bramble.

I was in a rush, of course. You have to wait so long for the sand in Ash Twin to go down until you can access the warp tower, and I wasn't keeping track of time. How long did I have until the sun exploded? That nagging worry stayed in the back of my head. Getting to the Vessel isn't easy, but I wanted to do it before we went boom.

I crashed my upper hull just getting into Dark Bramble. And for the first time in my playthrough, I didn't stop to fix the splintered glass covering my screen. It was distracting, but I might not have the time to make a repair stop, so I kept going, thanking my lucky stars that the broken glass wasn't causing oxygen to leak out or something equally bad.

Found the escape pod, sent my Scout into the Vessel node, etc. Did my agonizingly slow, propeller-free drift past the three waiting anglerfish in the node before it, waiting until I could barely hear their breathing before starting up my engine again.

And as I neared the Vessel node, my end almost in sight, I heard the telltale roar of an anglerfish.

Now, two loops ago, I'd been trying to make my way to the Vessel in the exact same situation. In my view, all I saw were white dots in front of me - no anglerfish in immediate range. In that loop, in that time, I had heard the same roar before being subsequently devoured by an anglerfish that had been somewhere directly above or below me - I don't know, because I didn't see them.

So I was spooked and panicked. Set the engines to full thrust, propelling myself faster and faster towards the Vessel node that was almost there, while hearing the anglerfish roar as it neared me from somewhere I couldn't see. 1 km, then hundreds of meters, and as I entered the node opening - my view starts spinning, and a deafening crash. Lights flashing red, an incessant beeping. I'd crashed into the walls of the node's opening. I couldn't even tell if I'd made it inside, it was just fog. My reactor'd been hit, along with other essential parts of my ship. The explosion was imminent, and I knew from past experience that you had to be well clear of the ship when it exploded or you'd get caught in the blast.

So I did what I had to. Left the helm, opened the hatch, and went outside.

By some lucky miracle, I had actually managed to make it inside the node before crashing, so there wasn't in fact an anglerfish waiting for me outside. My only choice - I went forward to the Vessel, full speed. After some time, there's an explosion behind me, and I know there's no going back. (God, every time your ship explodes or you lose it in some inaccessible area, it always gives such a hopeless feel to the remainder of that loop, and this time was no exception, even though I had a destination.) I do make it to the Vessel, insert the advanced warp core, input the coordinates - and the rest is history.

a very challenging and often frustrating game, but with very creative level design. if you can't do something, you're probably doing it the wrong way. many times in the game i see the level and go "hell no this isn't possible" and then proceed to do it after a few tries. 10/10

the game is trash and the devs keep messing up but im going to give a positive review to trick people into playing it :)

it's pretty fun if you get past the horrible balancing issues + connection issues + unfixed gamebreaking bugs (the kind that crashes your ranked games mid winstreak) + low skill opponents in the supposedly highest ranked arena + weekly ranking system that encourages grinding over winrate

when you do get a good match against a similarly skilled opponent, no bugs, no lag, no unrushable passive strategies, battles 2 can be pretty darn fun. too bad that's such a rare occurence
