Sadly, while I recommend the game I must warn that the AI voice lines partially ruin the experience for me. It pretty much brings me out of the immersion I have when it comes to gaming.

The game is fun with it's own mechanic that sets itself apart from traditional tower defense games. While I don't have a problem with AI, there could have been so much more done to make the dialogue more appealing. The issue with AI is that they usually have a monotone style of speech that makes it uncanny and inhuman. Those inflections and vocal characteristics we have in our voices is not present. I'm pretty sure they could have improved the style of the speech, because it sounds like they're just using generic voice models with no further training or modification.

They've made such a strong comeback, it's actually a miracle. Other game studios would have just given up years ago. They managed to turn a flop into a major hit.

Early Access Review
I understand that the game is in early access, so things may change, but I still need to judge the game as it is now, not what it might become.

Performance. This is a huge one. Even on low-medium settings I barely get 40 FPS, even with their dynamic resolution setting on. I don't have the fastest computer in the world anymore, 5950X and a 3090, and I must concede that I play at 4K. The issue, as detailed below, is that the lower FPS you have the more delayed the game feels. It's almost as if their inertia system is based on the amount of FPS you have, because at certain points in the first map, it took about 2-3 seconds for my character to start moving even though I was getting at least 30 FPS and my weight was about 15 KG. If weight slows you down THAT much, as I describe later with inertia, it needs to be clearly said somewhere.

Right now, the movement mechanics are clunky to say the least, responding delayed or even in weird ways where your character doesn't move in the direction you're pressing keyboard-wise or taking several seconds to start moving. This may be their implementation of inertia but I do not enjoy it.

The UI is quite bare bones, some things such as extracting isn't exactly clear in the world nor on the HUD. Yes, I get it, it's a post apocalyptic and whatnot, but some kind of indicator of where extraction might be is needed. Maybe not to the extent that Tarkov does, I enjoy the idea of discovering extraction points, but while constantly worrying about the enemies around you it isn't fun.

I like to say to give games like this 1 year before buying them. I enjoy early access titles because some of them can be hidden gems, but no matter what they think they say in their early access questionnaire, they usually stay in early access for 3+ years. Not that that is bad, it's just what I've come to expect personally.

The developers recently pushed an 800 MB update to the game that is nothing but an ad for another game. I get the advertisement and outreach, but 800 MB is an egregious size for an ad.

The game was abandoned with all future content canceled in less than 6 months. They did this because they did not meet the requirements for a season pass. Do not buy.

Yes, I recommend the game.
The campaign is sadly very short and the content that is available out of the gate does not justify a $60 price tag other than for the fact that it has Homeworld in the name. This game is worth at most $30. So either buy it on sale or get it at one of those sites where you can get games for less.

The campaign does not give you a lot of control for long, it is genuinely like you're watching an interactive movie, which is fine. I did like the amount of CGI cut scenes that were included, but if that was the type of campaign they were going for they should have included a whole lot more than what they did. Lip syncing was also very sub-par for a game released in 2024 too. Overall, I did like the direction of the story. People need to understand that this game takes place hundreds of years in the future after the events of Homeworld 2. This isn't necessarily a faithful sequel and more of a spin-off, with new characters and whatnot, so to judge the game like that is incorrect. Homeworld 2 also released almost 20 years ago, no game no matter who it was made by will ever be faithful like that with such a massive time difference between them. Quite literally 2 generations of game developers have made them.

The "year one pass" will likely only ever be a single year and then the game will be abandoned (my prediction). They destroyed Homeworld Mobile because of this game's terrible reception. The pass only includes content for multiplayer and the roguelike game mode of the game which is alright but it could have been so much better.

Okay Sony actually realized they were making a dumb decision and backed down.

I linked my PSN account because I already had one and didn't want to be bothered by a popup anymore. But to retroactively force it onto people, then not even prevent the sale of the game in countries where the creation of a PSN account isn't possible is just the d***est thing to do.

Such a great game ruined by corporate greed. Not to mention the countless recurrent Sony data breaches.

My review is based on 8 minutes of looking through the first few tutorials, including watching the "developer's broadcast" in the steam library page.

It is unfortunately too basic a game for me, that, or it unfortunately does not capture the feel of a transport tycoon game I've been looking for.

Early Access Review
For an Early Access game it's more polished than anything I've seen in E/A for the past decade. It's basically a better Valheim in every way.

Some QoL stuff they need to fix or add, squash bugs, and improve performance, but overall it's playable and enjoyable. The Voxel building system is 100% a nice touch, the possibilities are endless what people could end up creating.
