Look, the only reasons I can give you to not play the game is if you're averse to dark and disturbing themes OR if you don't enjoy playing RPG maker games or retro games, and for people who dislike the latter, I still urge you to give this one a shot if you're a fan of good world building, difficult but engaging turn based combat and compelling story and characters.

it's amazing how a game so small, packs so much content. While there's an overarching plot, there are decisions you can make that can not only change the ending but also change the world or characters around you in very impactful ways. Ways that can make a run significantly different from another. The game is unforgiving and also relies your luck as a skill, so making a wrong choice (could be interacting with the wrong enemy, being at the wrong place at the wrong time or even trusting someone) or being unlucky with the loot you get can cost you dearly. You could get a swift death from a strong foe or be doomed to crawl around with both of your legs cut off in battle and bleeding without any way to heal yourself. Both you and your enemies can decapitate each other.

Your first few runs might be difficult as there's no tutorial and you find out how the world works via trial and error - again, where the errors can be run ending. Not to mention there aren't too many save points. That being said, once you figure it all out, you'll notice a method to the madness as both the winning in combat and navigating the overworld is like a puzzle. One that can be very satisfying once you start noticing patterns. The books in the game might help you in that regard as well. You will have to make very difficult decisions, ranging from deciding what limb you're better off losing or risking the life of your party members or NPCs in the world.

And my god, the lore. It has so much depth and is given to you in various forms like character backstory, books, environmental storytelling, books and very heavy symbolism. In fact, one run of the game will only give you a fraction of what is actually happening with the story. The more characters you play as and the more playstyles you explore, the more perspectives you'll see of the world. You can put the pieces together or draw your own conclusions from it. The community is also amazing at coming up with theories and exploring the world even further.

None of the darkness or gore is overdone either. It's not gore for the sake of gore or shock value and actually makes sense in that setting. As for phalluses and the like, you can turn it off in the settings, so that's cool. There's so much more I want to talk about the game but I don't want to give out too many details. It's an amazing, immersive game and while you're at it, check the first game out too (You CAN watch lore videos, but playing it might be better).
