I never intended to buy and play this game due to EGS exclusivity thing and terrible launch.
But after all this time picked it up on sale and it greatly exceeded my expectations, which were pretty low.

The studio really made the game better, that's really uncommon in the today's game industry.
So, time for actual review.

The good:
The licence. BattleTech is great and all, nothing to say about it, really.
Atmosphere. It's great, especially during combat. The sounds, the visual, are, though not top notch in terms of quality, absolutely hit the spot for me. The satisfaction of killing enemy mechs are some of the most satisfying kills possible in singleplayer games.
A large world full of BattleTech lore. As a person, who only played MechCommander 2 and Mechwarrior 4 before, it creates a pleasant feeling of discovery. Something similar I've felt during my first run of Mass Effect trilogy.
A lot of mechs and equipment to toy with.

The bad:
Plot of main campaign. I havent beaten it yet, but it's kinda generic and plain. Could be better.
The mechlab is worse than in Mechwarrior 5. (fixable by mods)
No search engine for certain equipment. It really hurts to lose the only NARC/AC-20-BF/whatever without any way to find another.
AI is dumb. (fixable by mods)
Performance issues while zoomed.
The choice in timeline is kinda weird for me. Third Succession War is slow and kinda dull. Also you don't see a lot of fancy mechs and equipment at the start. (somewhat fixable by mods) Maybe devs, if they will still be in business, will come up with a major expansion or several smaller DLCs covering the Clan Invasion.

The ugly:
Demolish missions. Those are tedious, boring (you can't order your AI lancemates to break stuff), the enemies keep respawning, forcing you to have a cheesed-out MG and flamer built mech for it.
The landscapes, despite being beautiful, are repetive, you'll get used to seing all the same stuff after quite short time. Often the map even contains 2 or more of the same parts.

Sure, the game is far from perfect, but it's more than playble (especially comparing to it's release state, I think the devs have proven they can turn things around) and fun. Mods fix some of the issue, and, hopefully, more will come. I give it a reluctant yes to someone who's not familiar with BattleTech, and a strong yes to someone who knows what BattleTech is. The fans of BattleTech should know better for themself, so no word for them.
