Not wanting to spoiler anything, but if you're able to lose all your stashed up items without warning, the game isn't hardcore, it's just unfair

Early Access Review
I normally don't write a lot of reviews, but the negative reviews on this store page forced me to do it. Most of the negative reviews are from people who complain about having lost their first round inside this game. Very childish behaviour to rate a game for such an experience. Don't get me wrong, there are also well written reviews on the negative side and this game definitely deserves some. But it has so much good to offer.
Why is there a Smite 2?
The main cause why Titan Forge Games wanted to change from Smite 1 to Smite 2 was the limitations of the codebase and engine Smite 1 was running on. They talked about this for years prior and with the release of Unreal Engine 5, they had their chance. You already see it on the new gods Hecate and Mordred how successfully they are experimenting with their new found creative freedom. Smite 2 wasn't supposed to be a gigantic graphic update like some simply minded people think. Although the graphics and especially effects have significantly improved, that wasn't the main focus.
Main changes from Smite 1
Like I already said, the biggest changes are the codebase and the new Engine, which players won't notice directly on the surface but overtime from new mechanics and creative new god kit designs. Another big change was the item system. In Smite 1 you have physical and magical damage dealer and items for these categories. In Smite 2 it's more like League of Legends (according to my friends. I have played LoL maybe for a few hours, because I didn't like it). You have Strength and Intelligence now. Some abilities scale only on Strength or Intelligence and some lean more towards one of these stats. Basic Attacks mainly scale on the Strength stat. This offers possibilities of many new and unique item builds for your gods. Although it is a lot more complicated in the beginning as you can buy pretty much every item on every character.
They also reduced the number of Relics you can have down to one (it was two in Smite 1). But you now have Active Items that you can buy and activate on a key click. They fit into your standard 6 item array and are very useful to utilise. You can have a maximum number of three Active Items I think, because you can assign three buttons to these slots.
For the new item and ability system A LOT gods got changes. Some like Sol also got changes directly to their kit, which TFG wanted to do for years now, but were not really possible because of the technical limitations of Smite 1.
Bug experience
The game is currently still in Alpha state, which you can see from the Early Access Game tag. But except some minor bugs like the TAB window not closing by itself and a few UI bugs outside of a match, I had zero problems with this game. The game currently has two play modes. The classic 5v5 Conquest mode with three lanes and Arena. I was never a huge Conquest fan and didn't like that mode in other MOBAs, too. So my experience is mainly about the Arena play mode.
Opinion on the new UI upgrades
The new UI is absolutely beautiful... except the shop. Yeah, the shop still lacks identifying colors and a bit of love from the UX team, but otherwise it looks clean and up to modern standards.
God Balancing
I can't say much about god balancing now as the game started yesterday and matchmaking needs some matches to give you proper challenging enemy players. But I will get back on that once I was able to form an opinion.
Smite 1 is by far my most played game and I started it about 9 years ago. I'm very happy to see the developers taking a chance on making it better for the future and especially new players
Conclusion
If you are still here with me by now, I thank you. You either have a lot of free time or want to inform a lot, before jumping into a new game. I respect both.
Smite 2 has a lot on the boilerplate. The game is far from finished and will definitely take several months before being able to get into F2P release. But is it worth checking out now? It depends. I'm not sure if I can recommend it for new players yet, as what you will see now from the game, will probably dramatically differ from the final state and it would be a shame if that would ruin your experience. You can also still check out Smite 1 if you want to get a feel for the game and then later change to Smite 2. But if you want to join now, the base founders Pack is definitely worth it. You get all gods for free forever (a single champ in LoL costs about 10$ I think for comparison), some cosmetical goodies and if you've played Smite 1 and bought gems there, you get double the gems you have bought in Smite 2 (although these give you only a 50% discount for every purchase in Smite 2 with the new money currency. But still, for me it's basically a life long 50% off).

I hope we see us on the Battlegrounds gods and goddesses!
Give me a taunt if you see me, I'll try to go easy on you.

TLDR: If you liked the first game, buy this one. If you like Rogue Lites, buy this one
Wonderful value for an Early Access game. It's like a straight upgrade from the first game:
- There are two paths you can walk now (Either go down towards Tartarus or go to the surface and make your journey to Olympus)
- Omega Moves are charged up Attacks, which make weapon diversity even larger
- You can bathe with the NPCs (who doesn't love that after Baldur's Gate 3)
- A story that revolves about an understandable path of Vengeance

Some art is still simply drawn and some NPCs don't have character models yet. But that is honestly the biggest Early Access tag I could find in the game. I beat the final boss once now and there is already endgame content in the early access version.

The game was good. But with every new Season the performance drops rapidly. On Season start it is almost impossible to play the game, because it is constantly crashing.

Early Access Review
Did you play The Binding of Isaac? Imagine Isaac becoming a Teenager who stops crying and picks up a weapon to escape hell. Well you won't play Isaac in this game, but you'll play the son of the one and only Lord of the Underworld: Hades.
And like every Teenager, you want to do the exact opposite of what your father tells you. So you are trying to escape the Underworld, but obviously that's not an easy task and your father gets more pissed the more you try to escape.
Speaking of it, the game has so many wonderful voiced dialogues and even when you already died like 50 times, there are still new dialogues to listen to.
You also have access to a arsenal of (currently) 5 weapons, which play VERY different from another. I don't want to spoil any weapons here, but if you don't use the weapon with the long shaft like I do, I'll hate you with the bottom of my heart. And you won't fight alone! (well technically you do, but you have support from gods of the greek mythology and I can tell you, Athena saves your ass).
Anyways, I've beat the final boss several times now and there is still so much stuff to do, which is breathtaking for an early access game. My current highscore is about 28 minutes and I think there is still room to improve. BUT IF you've already beaten my extraordinary highscore, you are allowed to leave a thumbs down here :(.

If you are still reading and I think most of you won't, just buy this game. It's fricking good and could possibly be as good as Binding of Isaac, or maybe even better :P.
Great Thanks to the Developers for working on this game, you are inspirational to a young informatics student like me!

Very very good to play pen and paper with people who live a few 100 kilometers away.
