If you are on teh fence about purchasing this game, remember what Rockstar did with 3, Vice city, and San Andreas. Get it before it gets de-listed as there is a rumor on a (de)remake in the works.

Careful tabbing out of teh game during loading sequences, I had a hard crash where I needed to reset my PC entirely.
For the most part, GTA4 is a pretty good game. Has a choice system that plays a part in certain missions. The world is pretty detailed, and teh story alone is probably one of the best for the time it was released. The game had a lot to live up to coming after San Andreas, and even back in 08' when this released, it felt pretty different, for better or worse. The game had its flaws and during this time period, alot of games were taking leaps and bounds to a new generation of game engines. Ever wonder why most games that released in 08'-10' had that jank clunky feel to them?

Rockstar went for a more realistic vibe and succeeded on some aspects. But in 2022, the game has not aged too well, in both graphics and control. Especially if GTA5 is the first GTA you've ever played, this will feel like a headache to play. Rockstar always does a great job in replicating real life counterparts, from vehicles to locations. GTA4 is nothing different from this. Compared to GTA5, I think 4 has the most detailed car destruction ever. Scratches, bullet holes, individual dented parts to even corners of the roof denting in if hit the right way.

While story is great, and exploration is great, the shortcomings of GTA4 really outweigh the actually enjoyment. Poor character animations, Major screen stutter in cutscenes, poor vehicle handling and worst of all, the camera spirals out of control when you use your hand brake. Some quirky aspects such as vehicles bouncing off you when ramming them, and when drifting into a corner and clipping teh curb, you'll experience a nice barrel roll. Jank, but fun is the easiest term to describe GTA4. Consider modding the game to provide some modern improvements and or, lowering resolution to mitigate stutters. The game suffers from what was available at the time, 30fps.

While it may seem like there are alot of negatives to GTA4, the game is truly an experience, and one of my personal favorites behind GTA5 story. It's a hard one to recommend to someone if they are new to the franchise, but a classic recommendation for the veterans from 3D universe (GTA3+). Try the game, but don't expect an experience from teh likes of GTA5, or even San Andreas. The game is priced at a current $20, which is good for the age of it and you get all teh DLC.

Edit: Turning off Handbrake cam and limiting the resolution to 60hz, should stabilize some of teh driving
